Top Six Chemistry Labs Needed for the AP Exam!
Funded Oct 2, 2018Thank you so much for the much appreciated support. The Flinn Scientific lab kit includes six relevant activities that help the students better understand the concepts of important topics that frequently appear on the chemistry advanced placement examination. One of the labs involved polarity and the separation of dyes from Kool-Aid using different concentrations of isopropyl alcohol. I made sure that the students completed a thorough lab report to ensure collaboration and comprehension. Another lab involved rates of evaporation of different alcohols and alkanes which truly helped understand intermolecular forces.
We are very fortunate to have such amazing support from the community.”

Kinetics Labs and More!
Funded Aug 25, 2018Thank you so much for donating towards the Chemistry AP Kinetics lab. The students were able to work in small group to discover how the change in concentration, surface area, and addition of a catalyst increases reaction rate. Kinetics is a particularly important topic in chemistry AP and is one of the Big Ideas found in the college boards curriculum so allowing the students to perform hands on inquires definitely helped them develop a better understanding of the material. Thank you so much for supporting my classes!”

Funded Apr 11, 2018Thank you all so much for donating towards my chemistry projects. I am extremely grateful for all the support that my students receive from the community. Every year, my students have the resources to investigate and collaborate during meaningful inquiry based labs which in turn makes the class a better learning experience. Another fantastic fact is I have these amazing power supplies which will be used my upcoming classes for years. As you can see from the photos we used them for a hydrolysis lab which is an activity that I assigned during our lesson on electrochemistry.
Thanks again!”

Let's Make That Brass Key Look Like Copper!
Funded Mar 12, 2018Thank you for your generous donations towards the electrochemistry equipment. We are very fortunate to have STEM hardware that helps the students perform meaningful labs. Your thoughtful donations allowed the students to use electroplating technology and separate 12 volt batteries which enabled the students to conduct a handful of electrochemistry activities. Most students in other chemistry classes in the area do not have this type of equipment and that it why I am extremely grateful for each family that contributes to my student's experience. Best part is that I am going to use this equipment over and over again for years to come.”

Electrochemistry Kits Benefit Every Type of Science Student!
Funded Mar 7, 2018Thank you so much for your thoughtful contributions towards the electrochemistry lab. The students constructed a galvanic cell using a combination of various metals in order to determine which pairing produced the greatest amount of electrical energy. This was my first year teaching electrochemistry and the students have said that they understand this chapter very well because they had the opportunity to have a hands-on approach to the investigation. For those going into AP chemistry and/or physics next year, they will have a level of confidence because of the caring and supportive parents that made this lab happen!”

Molymod Molecular Models Make Marvelously Motivated Students More Magnificent
Funded Jan 17, 2018Thank you so much for funding the molecular models which came in handy during a couple chapters in which students needed to have a visual understanding of the molecules. During the bonding and liquids/solids chapter, The three models included a large ice, a crystal lattice, and a triglyceride. These were so helpful that I actually kept them on my teaching desk during lecture and then would refer to their properties frequently. Then when the exam came along, I used all three models in my lab practicum. There molecular models helped the students learn abstract concepts much easier!
Thank you again!”

First, Let's Split Water & Then Perform More Chemical Reactions!
Funded Oct 30, 2017Thank you all so much for donating towards the electrolysis and types of reactions lab. The electrolysis lab was amazing because the students were able to set up an apparatus that connected to a power source in order to decompose water into hydrogen gas and oxygen gas. Then they proved hydrogen gas was produced my igniting the product in a test tube which produced a tiny flame to their surprise. The results of this lab will be brought up again towards the end of the year when I teach electrochemistry. Therefore, the students that performed this activity will have a better understanding of oxidation and reduction.
Thanks so much!”

Please Help Us See the Light!
Funded Oct 12, 2017Thank you so much for purchasing the Vernier emission spectrometer. I have designed a lab that allows students to use spectroscopes with eight different gas tubes. Then I use the Vernier emission spectrometer to accurately measure the wavelength and intensity of the different gases. Finally, I show the students these graphs using the Vernier Labquest and then they are required to take the time to carefully study the refraction lines produced from the spectroscopes and match their findings with the graphs!
Genius plan! I could not have done this without your help!!!
Thank you so much!”

Now They Can Participate & Get Involved Without the Anxiety
Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you all so much for donating towards the student response clickers. Not all students feel comfortable participating; after all, they are not getting involved for various reasons so why create an uncomfortable environment. Problem solved with these response clickers because students are able to participate without mentioning a word. The students really enjoy using the devices to check their understanding and some even enjoy competing for the most correct answer!
Thanks for contributing towards a better science experience.”

Funded Nov 9, 2017Thank you so much for supporting my class by help purchase the multi-colored test tube racks and test tubes. The racks are very appealing to the students not only visually but also with their usefulness. The cubes connect together and each side has different sized hole for different lab supplies. Various sized test tubes, microfuge containers, test tube brushes (a student favorite), and Sharpie markers all fit nicely into the holes. The rainbow of colors creates an peaceful atmosphere at each lab station.
Thanks so much!”
