The Baby Bears Are Learning New Things!
Funded Apr 4, 2017Thank you all so much for your generosity! These materials allowed us to achieve and reach so many new goals this past spring! When my students saw the new materials they were so excited! One student loves the ABC's so much and the ABC chart really helped to engage him during Circle Time.
The ABC chart was also a huge hit for my other students and was used often during Circle Time. We were able to sing the alphabet song while pointing to the different letters, sort pictures based on their beginning sounds, and also worked on phonics skills. The discrete trial materials saved me and my support staff hours of creating flashcards from scratch: finding images online, printing, laminating and cutting them all out. Some of the discrete trial materials were so enjoyable for my students, they requested to get to use (or play) them when they got a break from work! The bug pattern set is an awesome addition to the classroom and while I used it during one-on-one instruction, we also used it during our springtime bug theme in various settings.
While these items were purchased for my class last spring, I am looking forward to using them with all my bright new students who will be arriving at my school this September. Our upcoming school year will be a bit different as I am changing classrooms. In addition to the room change, I am also teaching younger students too! I am looking forward to new challenges and adventures that await the Baby Bears and know these materials will be quite loved and used by my new class. Thank you again!”
With gratitude,

Baby Bears and the New Year
Funded Nov 11, 2014Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous donation to our classroom! My students and I are lucky that there are wonderful people out there like yourself who choose to give to the education of children. We have been loving the items purchased with your donation, specifically the tunnel, baby dolls, and bell shakers.
My students use the tunnel almost daily in our classroom. It has become a major part of their sensory breaks, as a quiet place to go and just lay in or roll from side to side. One student in particular loves it and he will just go and sing to himself inside it. It is very soothing for him. Thank you. Without your contribution, he would not have that opportunity! We also use it in a more active role with our Occupational Therapy Motor Group that occurs every Friday in the classroom. I've included some photos of one activity where it was used as part of an obstacle course. Students not only were working on motor skills with the tunnel, but also social skills such as turn-taking, waiting, and cheering for their friends.
The baby dolls are also a favorite in my play center. I have a student who has become particularly fond of them. She will carry them around the play area and bring adults over to play with her. We are currently working on getting her to engage with other students using the baby dolls. I have also just found a great Circle Time curriculum that uses baby dolls to teach social skills and connect with children who have Autism. I will be making good use of the dolls with those activities and am looking forward to seeing where it takes us!
While not as exciting to the students as the other items from your donation, I am so grateful for the clear plastic folders. I was using very cheap folders I purchased with my own funds in the beginning of the year and they were falling apart. Parents also were forgetting to send them back to school! Since getting the clear plastic folders, rarely does a parent forget to send it back! It's amazing. Also, it saves me time (even if it is just 1 minute) in the morning when looking through backpacks to see if parents sent in any notes for the day. That one minute can mean a lot when you've got 7 children in the room!
A thank you really isn't enough to convey how much of an impact your donation has had on my classroom. We are so grateful and appreciative! Thank you so very much!”
