  • Strong Muscles Build Strong Brains

    Funded Apr 4, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution to our outdoor learning environment. Our students have been enjoying their new tricycles so much. We now have a new group of students and tricycles are their favorite outdoor activity. It is so helpful to have more trikes in our fleet. Riding tricycles helps our students develop their gross motor skills, strengthen their muscles and release pent up energy. We also received some toy traffic signs which help us turn trike riding into.a dramatic play opportunity as well. This donation has made a big impact and we are very grateful.”

  • Making Phonics Phun

    Funded Oct 11, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. My students have enjoyed playing all of the phonics games. The set of Splash games is a favorite among all of our small groups. It's perfect because there are several boxes that each focus on different phonics skills, so all of my students can play, regardless of what skill they are working on.

Receiving donations from Donors Choose always amazes me. Lakeshore products in particular are very expensive and are just not attainable without your support. We are very grateful.”

  • Reading Starts With Sounds

    Funded Aug 1, 2022

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom. The sound cards are making a huge impact on learning. We use the sound spelling cards and sound wall with every group of students we work with everyday.

There is a large emphasis in the US right now on the science of reading. Much research has been done on what is actually happening in the brain when we read and instructional methods are being modified to support that research. These cards really help us to reinforce the rules and phonemes of English. This is critical for kids, especially struggling readers.

Your generous donation is making a real difference for my students.”

  • A Fresh Start For The New Year

    Funded Aug 29, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom. We have been greatly enjoying our new carpet sweeper, table dividers and wireless doorbell.

We use our rug so much and it is much more pleasant for students to sit, lay and play on when it is nice and clean.

All of the items in this project have helped to improve student focus in the classroom. A tiny piece of trash on the rug can be very distracting for a five year old. Now, we are able to keep our rug trash free.

The doorbell allows me to get my students attention quickly and efficiently. They enjoy anticipating which tone I will chose each day.

The table dividers really help them to focus when doing independent work. They enjoy having some privacy, and it helps me to make sure I am receiving each students individual work and understanding their capabilities, so I know where to intervene to either support or challenge them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCloy

  • A Fresh and Clean Place to Sit and Learn

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Our clean, new rug has made our days in the classroom so much brighter. Our old rug was so dirty and dingy. It was not a comfortable place for students to learn and play. Now, we enter the room each day to a brightly colored, welcoming meeting place. Others walk in and gape with envy at our lovely rug.

Things like new rugs are often not in the school budget. If there is a rug in your classroom, no matter how old and dirty, purchasing a new one is not seen as a priority. It is so wonderful, and such a relief that we have other options when the school budget does not have room. Your generosity has made our classroom a better place.”

  • Making Meaning Through Music

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students and I cannot thank you enough for making our classroom a more musical place. Music is such an important part of the early childhood curriculum. Students are more engaged and retain information better when they learn it through movement and song.

Our old equipment often didn't work, had poor sound quality, and our musical selections were limited. The upgraded equipment has made our day so much smoother, and has allowed me to incorporate even more music and movement into our day.

I am able to bring the wireless speaker with me outside, so we can have music available during physical education, and into the school auditorium to help make assemblies more engaging. I am always overwhelmed with gratitude when we are recipients of such generosity.”

  • Art Supplies R Us

    Funded Jul 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. My students have been greatly enjoying the new art supplies. Earlier this year, we were able to use the Crayola Model Magic to complete a color mixing lesson as a culminating project for our unit on colors. The look on the students' faces when a new color magically appeared in their hands was priceless.

This week we are using all of our new painting supplies to paint large snowmen to decorate our classroom for the winter. The students can't wait for their turn at the easel. The special paint cups with color coded tops, brushes and matching lids make organization and clean up so easy, and cut down on waste because extra paint can be covered and saved for the next day.

I cannot adequately express how grateful we are for this help. Art materials are in short supply at our school and art lessons are so important for developing minds.”

  • Making the Most of Classroom Technology

    Funded Feb 15, 2015

Thank you so much for providing the funding for me to attend the iPads in the classroom workshop. I spent three days this summer learning with like minded colleagues and expanding my knowledge of the use of iPads for my students.

Prior to this workshop, our classroom iPad was being used primarily for games.

The students were having fun and reviewing content they had learned, but were certainly not making the most of the technology.

This training gave me the knowledge and skills to guide my students to use the iPads to actually produce new content. Even my very young students are able to do amazing things with these devices. Right now we are working on creating our own stop motion animation.

Without the generosity of donors like you, this would not have been possible. My students and I are very grateful.”

This coming school year, I will be teaching a group of transitional kindergarten students. This is a brand new program for those students with birthdays in the fall whose parents feel they are not quite ready for traditional kindergarten. I teach in a high poverty area, and my school does not offer a pre-school program. My classroom will be the first experience that this group of four year old students has with school. I have 24 students in the classroom, and it is a challenge to give everyone the individual attention they need. In order to be able to work with small groups or individual students I must provide a way for my other students to work independently.
