  • All Clean!

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

I have already used your amazing donations by giving 2 pants and 3 underwear to a child who had three accidents in three days and didn't have all the changes of clothing he needed after his accidents. This is a reality in my school in the pre-kindergarten classrooms. Not all students bring a change of clothing or if they have a change of clothing they may be missing underwear, socks, or even pants.

When the students opened the boxes they were a little disappointed to find sweatpants, underwear for boys and girls, and socks.

The Pre Kindergarten classrooms really appreciate your generous gifts. They have already come in handy and unfortunately they will continue to come in handy when the boys and girls have accidents and are missing changes of clothing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mandelbaum

  • Pictures, Please

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Thank you for your generous donations to purchase a color photo printer. The class has used it in many different ways. I now have been able to print color pictures, I can print color pictures of my students to display on bullitin boards, print color centers for my students, and print the student's pictures to match their name. The students have even created their own holiday gift for their parents (a picture of themselves next to a minature Christmas tree with ornaments in a handmade frame with a magnet on the back) as an ornament or magnet.

There are many uses for this printer. The biggest and most convientient being that I do not need to print pictures by the drug store anymore since I can print them out myself. I am very excited to do more projects with my students and incorporate more of them in it.”

  • Just Baking!

    Funded May 11, 2023

The preschool students in my class have been so excited to bake in the classroom. This is a new and wonderful addition which will allow us to build language, mathematical and social skills.

We will be baking and decorating various types of cookies for the different holidays. We will also bake cakes for each of children's birthdays so they can be celebrated with the class when the parents aren't bringing in something special for their child's birthday. We will also bake bread to learn about different cultures.”

  • Setting Students Up for Academic Success With a Special Space!

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations that made my request a reality. It wouldn't have been possible without you. Because of you, my students are no longer sitting on the floor or carpet when doing independent work. The table Is used in many different ways. It allows me to work with a small group of students to help improve their reading or math skills. That is when those extra stools come in very handy, so I can work with as many students as needed. Sometimes the students use the table to work with partners so they won't be distracted by others. Other times students go to the table to work by themselves independently. The wheeled stool allows me to easy move around the classroom or table helping students.

When my students saw the table and stools, they were surprised and awestruck. They loved the bright colors of the stools. They couldn't wait to get a chance to put the table and stools to use. It was so exciting to see the pure joy on their faces.”

  • Watch Our Learning Grow With Butterflies!

    Funded May 19, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations so all the kindergarten classes at PS 198K could experience the amazing phenomenon of watching caterpillars transform into butterflies. From the moment the boxes arrived, the students were thrilled and excited to see our new additions to the classes. Everyday they couldn't wait to see what happened to the caterpillars.

We used the kids excitement of the caterpillars to teach them reading, science, math, writing and art. We immersed them in all different types of literature about butterflies and the changes that caterpillars go through to become butterflies. We observed and made predictions about the changes that would occur. The students measured and compared how the caterpillars were growing and changing between the different classes. They wrote about what they noticed and even drew pictures about the butterflies. Finally when it was time, the students said good bye to the butterflies and we sent them off to find a new home.

This project tied in wonderfully with our study of animal life cycles. We also tied it in with plants because we studied the types of plants butterflies like and lay their eggs on. The students then observed milkweed seeds, planted them and watched them grow. We even put a plant inside our butterfly habitat. We culminated this study with a field trip to the Bronx Zoo where the students visited the butterfly garden. They then were able to observe many different types of butterflies. They were fascinated by the butterfly nursery where they could see many chrysalises of different colors and sizes. It was an awe inspired experience that they will surely not forget.”

  • Creative Thinkers Need Toner to Share Their Ideas

    Funded Jan 5, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation of ink toner to our classroom. With the toner, it gave my students the ability to bring their writing to life and make tangible booklets. In social studies we studied many famous African Americans who have made an impact or affected others. The students then wrote what they learned about that person, found pictures of that person on the Internet, and we printed their work into books that they created. I have printed other activities which the students use during their independent reading and learning times. Another activity is the students color hearts and write about their feelings as part of our character education program. Recently we have completed our Dr Seuss unit and the students have enjoyed coloring their favorite characters they have read about.

When we received the package the students were very excited because I explained to them all the different ways we can now use the computer. In this day and age there are many amazing printable activities and printable games for them on the Internet. I am so glad that I am able to give them all different resources. I have students of so many various levels and the ability to make and print activities that suites their individual needs is so important for their educational growth.

This month is April and we will be studying poetry. The students will be studying different types of poems and creating poems of their own. I can't wait to help type their original works of art and print them for the students. This way they can enjoy them but they can also be displayed so other can benefit from it as well.

The toner has also helped the teachers on the grade plan and print suitable fun activities that make learning fun.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mandelbaum
