  • Help Us Reveal the "Hidden Figures" of the Space Race

    Funded Oct 11, 2017

We have just finished a unit on the black women who were so instrumental in helping America win the space race. I believe my students were challenged by reading the stories of these courageous women who had to overcome the social obstacles due to the fact that they were both female and African-American.

My hope is that the young women and men in our school, many of whom face similar obstacles, will feel that they also can succeed if they display the same determination as these women to get the best education they can to face their future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

This classroom project was brought to life by OGE Energy Corp. Foundation Inc. and OG&E and 7 other donors.
  • Help My Students Learn a Lesson in Courage

    Funded Dec 30, 2017

I want to thank the donors and Mr. White in particular for the donation that got my school a classroom set of "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas. The life that Starr and the other characters in this book in many ways mirrors the life many of my students lead. Most of them come from one of the most poverty stricken areas in our city with all the problems of drugs and violence that come along with those in poverty.

Ms. Thomas shows them that they can be brave and overcome all the obstacles that life has thrown in their paths. Starr and her family work together to deal with their circumstances. They are not perfect people, but they are a family that help one another in their lives.

My students need to see a model for this kind of life, and your donations have given them this.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • We Should ALL Be Reading Critically and Thinking Logically

    Funded Oct 2, 2017

First, I apologize for the lateness of this letter. We have just today begun our study of this great essay. The students are preparing for their Advanced Placement Language and Composition exam in May. This essay will help them with their preparation.

We have had our school budgets reduced year by year. We have lost 28 percent the state's funding for common education. Your help is vital to my ability to offer my students a quality education. Because of you, they can read about an important issues:equality and social justice.

They will be faced with these issues in their lives after school. Thanks for helping me to prepare them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • Healthy Snacks for Our Food Pantry

    Funded Mar 13, 2018

Our students are benefiting from your generous donation to provide them with healthy snacks to supplement their school meals. Many of our students are dependent on our school meals to get a breakfast and lunch. Your donation will enable them to have something to keep them going through the school day. These snacks not only satisfy their hunger, they also show that someone really cares about them. They also provide nutritious supplement to their diets.

I host an after school tutoring session. These snacks help them to concentrate on their lessons and learning.

    Thank you once again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • Help Our Kids Train for the Upcoming Soccer Season

    Funded Sep 17, 2017

Thank you for your generosity, and your belief in our kids. Thanks to you, we will have some needed equipment for our new soccer team at our school. This will have a positive impact on our students because more of them will be able to participate in a team sport.

Soccer is called "The Beautiful Game." The for many of our students its beauty lies in the fact that they too can compete with students throughout our district and state. The practice soccer balls you have provided will allow them to train for the upcoming season.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • Help Start Our Table Tennis Team

    Funded Mar 6, 2017

Thank you for your generosity to our students. I want to especially thank the good people of Dick's Sporting Goods whose matching donations helped to fund this project. Not only that, after the first table was damaged while setting it up, they came through with a second table and arranged to have it set up by someone who knew what he was doing!

The students are excited over the new sports opportunity. We have not used it much so far because we are working out protocols on how to best utilize this gift from you.

I will send updates on the way we have used it to impact learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

This classroom project was brought to life by DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation - Sports Matter and 6 other donors.
  • They Cut Our Budget Again! We Need Supplies for 2017-2018.

    Funded Sep 14, 2017

The package of supplies your donations helped to create arrived, as they say, in the "nick of time." The pens, pencils, notebook paper, markers and other supplies have helped my students complete their projects and classwork.

Too often, teachers like me get a lot of lip service but no action. When people find out I am a teacher, I typically get praised for my "calling." However, when it comes time to vote for the money to do our important work, the tune changes.

You have done more than simple praise. You have taken action, and my student have and will benefit from your action.

    Thank you for you help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • We Need Ink Before Our Copier Fades Away

    Funded May 10, 2017

Even in this electronic, "paperless" age, teachers still rely on handouts to give students instruction in reading skills like close reading, annotation, graphic organizers and other projects. We still rely on the copier to get these materials in our students' hands.

Thanks to you, we will have ink for our copier for this year.

Our school budgets keep getting tighter and tighter. So more and more of us are looking to voluntary funding to provide quality instruction. You have stepped into the gap with your generosity.

Expect "Thank you" notes from my kids that were printed on, you guessed, our copier.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • We Need Headphones For Audio Lessons

    Funded May 18, 2017

Thank you for providing much needed technology for my students. Now that they have these headphones, they can work at their own pace when using online educational projects that require them to exercise their listening skills.

We have to rely on your support to get those "extra" materials that engage and deepen their knowledge. Now, when they use their laptops and Chromebooks, they can plug in the headsets you provided them and do their projects without disturbing others.

Thank you for providing for their enrichment. You have shown these young women and men that people they do not even know care about their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

  • Writing Our Way to College

    Funded Oct 25, 2016

The Advanced Placement Language course proved to be more popular that my school had anticipated. As a consequence we were short several copies of our main textbook so that each student could have her or his own book. You have come to our rescue and supplied what we needed! Thank you for your generosity.

Our students face a world where critical thinking a clear writing are the key to a successful life. Those who go on to college, and I hope that most will, may be the first person in their family to do so. This course will help make that possible.

Thank you for enriching our students' lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Green

All adolescents face life challenges. Those from poor and working class families often face enormous challenges. These students go to my high school. I am grateful to the generosity of those who contribute to the DonorsChoose project who continue to open up opportunities my students otherwise could not have. Thank you one and all.
