Each year that I have taught, I have taken pride in creating a space where my students were excited to learn every day. I have spent weeks prior to school creating a classroom environment which is bright, colorful, creative and inviting. Even with my effort to create an exciting environment, I noticed that something was missing in the physical set up of my classroom. As adults, we all have our favorite spaces in which we like to create, be productive, and get work done. For many of us, that space is not a desk and a chair. For example, I work best on the couch in my living room or standing at a table. During my teaching career, I have had my students sit in desks like most conventional classrooms. Last year, I chose to let my students decide where they wanted to work and, to my surprise, most of them didn't want to be at a desk at all; instead, they chose the floor. Every time I gave them the freedom to work on the floor or on a bench, they were much more involved in that activity. At that moment, I knew I had to create a classroom that was designed for them to be comfortable and promote more movement and collaboration. As a donor, you will not only be providing a comfortable space for my students, but you will also give them with the ability to choose where they learn best. These different seating options, such as the stools, yoga balls, Hokki seats and wobble cushions will be used for students to sit in at their desks or around the room while learning.
