The vast majority of my students are below the fifth grade reading level, mainly because the schools that they've previously attended did not drive home the importance of enjoying reading. Students have not built the confidence in literacy, therefore they sometimes face reading with much apprehension. In order to build strong readers, students need to actually enjoy reading. This library will provide my students with exposure to text that will not only build strong readers but also build students who fall in love with their texts. Giving my 5th graders an opportunity to engage with many different texts will help them see the world through a much larger lens, this is all I can hope for in my work as an educator.
