Energize our Library!
Funded Oct 8, 2024This is incredible! As the days ticked down, I started to worry whether this project would get enough support for full funding—how silly of me. Words can't capture the emotions I’m feeling right now. I can’t wait to share this amazing news with my students tomorrow and start making room on our shelves for the new arrivals. These books are favorites among other students and will be such valuable tools, offering both resources and motivation for learning English. Thank you for making such a profound impact on the lives of our deserving, hard-working students—both in and out of the classroom. (Their teachers are already beyond grateful!)”

Funded Dec 8, 2023Your donation will directly impact the lives of young minds, providing them with more than just snacks and food. You're giving them the fuel they need to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment where resources can often be scarce. Your kindness doesn't just fill their bellies; it nourishes their potential and opens doors to a brighter future.
Your belief in our mission to support these students, especially those facing challenging circumstances, means the world to us. Your generosity doesn't go unnoticed; it ripples through our community, sparking hope and inspiring others to join in creating positive change.
Once again, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your unwavering support. Your contribution will help my students thrive.”

Born a Crime: Unpacking a Powerful Memoir
Funded Aug 25, 2019I cannot express how thankful I am for your generosity. My students are going to be so excited to read Born a Crime. They love engaging stories and now they will have access to a recent memoir that will inspire them to write their personal statements. I can't wait for the resource to arrive. My students do not have much, so when I am able to introduce them to something new I love it. They are great kids.”

What Does it Mean to Be an Immigrant Today?
Funded Sep 6, 2018We recently completed student-led conferences. These conferences allow students to tell their story and showcase some of the work they have done this year. When my students first saw the materials they were thrilled - they know the cost of the posters and rarely have access to resources like this. Many students - especially those with a passion for art - where excited to use the posters for their student-led conference and share their progress and future plans with a teacher and parent.
Given that my classes were smaller than anticipated. I have saved many of these materials and will use them next year when my freshmen will be doing student-led conferences. Again, by using colorful posters, students can feel more pride in their work and showcase some of their projects.”

Funded Aug 23, 2014Thank you so much for funding my project - Keeping Current: Inspiring Students with Accessible News. Due to your donations, my students had the opportunity to read and discuss important current events in a way that was previously not possible given the resources at my school.
Junior Scholastic and Up Front were shown to be excellent for my ELL students that are both learning English as well as social studies content. The magazines provide reading that is accessible and has a strong international focus. Students could often make personal connections to the readings and this deepened their understanding of what is going on in the world around them.
In my classroom, the magazines were used in a few different ways. During silent reading time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students spent 15 minutes reading a magazine of their choice. After the silent reading period, I would probe students about what they read and ask if they had any questions about any of the articles. As a class, we occasionally analyzed a political cartoon about a current issue. In addition to silent reading, the magazines provided content for class debates on issues including gun control, minimum wage, school choice, and gay rights.
All of my students said that they greatly appreciate having these resources in our classroom. Last year we did not have these magazines. Thanks to your generosity, my classroom is a more dynamic and enriched environment that has more options for challenging my students.”
