Into the Outdoors

The first time we went outdoors for a lesson, the students were thrilled! We have had poor air quality due to the California fires. Covid restrictions limit our classroom instruction to our tables. Spirits immediately lifted when I mentioned our change in scenery and passed out the new lap desks we would use for our outdoor math lesson!

"They have pockets, Mrs. Richards; we don't even have to carry our supply boxes!" Another student suggested we have a picnic with them! I will try that in the future as the lap desks are easy to wipe down with sanitizing wipes!

The outdoor math lesson with our linker cubes was the most fun I have ever had using math manipulatives with a class. Students are always extra noisy during hands-on lessons. Because we were outdoors, I did not have to remind them to keep the noise level down. Thank you, donors, for making outdoor instruction possible! Next, we will use our lap desks to research fall leaves!”
