    Funded Feb 14, 2024

Thank you for supporting our newest and very eager learners! The books, journals, sound tubs and motivational prizes are engaging and hands-on. We use the books to support literacy skills, oral language practice, and to spark connections to content areas they may learn about in their homeroom classes.

  • Hands-on Wooden Math Supplies for Elementary

    Funded Nov 28, 2022

As a math and literacy coach I work with many teachers on strategies to support student learning. One of my favorite parts is going into classrooms and working with students and teachers during math activities. The supplies for this proposal support our Counting Collections activities school wide. They are part of a shared library of resources so that many students and teachers have access to them. Through organizing, grouping, counting and recording these many collections our students are developing foundational math skills that support understanding of base ten and problem solving. It's not only effective but it's exciting! All students have the opportunity to be teachers and leaders in this type of activity.

Thank you again for supporting high quality, research based instruction in mathematics!”

  • Math Collaborations Develop Foundational Skills and Bring Joy!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

As our school embarks on a journey to bring more student centered activities to math instruction, we find that hands-on activities are essential. Math manipulatives and math stories create contexts that scaffold students' conceptual development. They are learning about numbers and number relations through problem solving. They share their ideas and strategies as their teacher facilitates these opportunities. When a new collection arrives in the classroom, the students literally shout with excitement. They can't wait to collaborate, plan and count these new collections. We have seen impressive growth in number sense through these activities. Our students are loving math! Thank you!”

  • Become a Better Reader Through...Reading!

    Funded Feb 7, 2022

Thank you for supporting this literacy proposal. I work with students that need extra support to accelerate, catch up and succeed. It's important to have age appropriate books and learning materials so that they can engage and have a positive self-image of themselves as learners. The books in this proposal connect to themes they are studying in their homerooms and have vibrant pictures, text and content. They enjoy reading them and relating these books to what they are learning in class. This proposal also includes many hands-on phonics activities. Phonics is the foundation for reading and learning recognize word patterns is a skill that will help them access more challenging grade level books. Thank you again for believing in my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reguero Garrison

Who are these books for? My first graders are excited learners and eager to practice their new reading skills. They look forward to leaning information and sharing fun stories. They are also bilingual learners! I teach first grade in a Bilingual Two Way Immersion school. Native Spanish speakers and native English Speakers together learn academic content in Spanish. They are immersed in it for most of the day. We also teach English to all students at a specified time of the day. As students progress through the grade levels the amount of English increases with the goal of all students becoming bilingual, bi-literate and having an appreciation for other cultures.
