Ceramic Self-Expression
Funded Sep 27, 2024Students have been using the new resources to explore color theory through their ceramic mask projects. They utilized underglaze to mix colors and express their emotions, applying it with brushes. This allowed them to customize their process, creating textures, value changes, and adding intricate details. The supplies and materials provided through Donors Choose gave students the opportunity to work with fewer limitations, enabling them to be more creative and personalized in their approach. When students first saw the materials, they were thrilled and thankful for the new supplies, as it gave them more freedom to experiment and explore.
Looking ahead, students will be displaying their masks for their peers to see. For those who choose to continue taking Sculpture classes, they will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of sculpture and experiment further with color application on ceramic surfaces. This progression will help them refine their techniques and continue to grow in their artistic abilities.”

Funded Sep 21, 2023This project allowed students to explore new materials to create personally significant works of art. Students were so excited to work with air dry and modeling clay, which is something different than what they were used to working with. Once students finished sculpting, they were able to advance their knowledge of color theory to work with a variety of quality paints and paint markers. Students experimented with blending, layerings, and dry brushing to take their sculptures to the next level.
This was the first time I was able to implement this project I created and it was so fun! Students got inspired by a real working artist and were able to create meaningful works of art. I am hoping to continue implementing this project in the future so other students can get the same valuable experience. Thank you so much! We could not have done this without you.”
