When I brought my personal collection of science fiction into class one day something crazy happened: students asked to borrow them, got excited about reading, and were eager to discuss their favorite stories. Making science feel relevant. I believe having a classroom library of books with modern science topics and exciting science fiction will create better engagement and literacy among the students. The topics we study in class will feel more immediate and relevant to their lives. Radium Girls will show them that safety isn't something to be dismissed. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy will make them laugh. I Contain Multitudes will show them how science continues to grow and expand in our current world.
