I teach 3rd-12th grade students at a K-12 parent-partner alternative school. Our students come from various backgrounds. Some have been/are homeschooled and some come to us after not "fitting" into what the traditional school has become. We have a large Russian/Ukrainian/Slovenian population who still speak their native language at home. We have grown from about 50 students in the basement of a church, to 350 students, to 750 last year when we moved into a small district building. This year we are up to 976 students and keep growing each week. We are the largest parent-partner alternative learning program in our state. We continue to take in students because they need to be supported and inspired, but we are bulging at the seams in regards to space, time, and resources for these kids. The impact we have on each student outweighs the hardships we face sharing rooms and equipment needed to teach 21st Century students.
