  • Speaking on the Prairie

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Thank you for your generous gift, It is because of you that we have even gotten as far as we have at the sound for our assemblies and meetings. Your gift will be a tremendous life saver. Our students can have more experience in conquering fear of speaking. Thank you”

    With gratitude,

  • Natives of the Prairie

    Funded May 7, 2019

Prairie Queen has never had a first hand experience with Native American instruments with the addition of these flutes we will explore this instrument, the sounds, the tone, the scale and most importantly the culture of this instrument.

We will learn about Lakota traditions surrounding the origin of the flute.

We will explore the evolution of the Native American flute makers. We will showcase our knowledge through a series of performances. We will bring them to perform with OKC Phil on Mar 25. Without your generosity this part of Music tradition would be left behind and lost.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vaughn

  • Mic Queen

    Funded Oct 8, 2018

Our School is so grateful for the wireless mics, mic stands, and mic clips.

We have used them in our programs and our Assembly that now the back part of the gym can hear at the assemblies. I can hear the track to keep us with the music better. Most importantly the students can be heard in the assemblies so much better.

In my classroom I can have the students practice with the mics so they are used to working with them for performances. My Narrators know how their voices sound so they can speak out with more confidence. Since I have a role with the Dirstict for the Counting Bee they where used to improve our District wide Competition. So your gift has touched many lives already. The messages of our songs are stronger and clearer. Thank you so much from all of us at Prairie Queen and Oklahoma City Public Schools Elementary Music Department.”

  • Ukulele for a Queen

    Funded Oct 12, 2016

When we received our materials, Ukulele, Guitars and Books we where very excited as you can see in our pictures. When the students opened the boxes the students said "Wow Mrs. Vaughn what kind of an Guitar is this?" Another student said " I have never seen anything like this before." So the students and I began to explore the instruments during that rehearsal.

The next time we got together we then learned about how students hold the instruments and tune the instruments. We are learn the Guitars first then we will move to the Ukulele.

By May 5th we should have several ensemble pieces learned. It is truly amazing to see how these students are soaking this up.

They continue to learn more about what it takes to learn an instrument. Many students that seemed to be bored and uninterested in Music have made a complete turn around. Having been at Prairie Queen for 2 years it was hard to encourage the students to play instruments. With the Guitars and Ukulele we have grow in our knowledge. Including myself, I have done some research that has helped me to better teach these students about these instruments.”

    With gratitude,

In our Class we are striving to support the needs of a highly underdeveloped student population into a more well rounded and diverse student group. Through in school Opera performances, trips to the OKC Symphony to highly innovative teaching methods customized to a specific student style of learning. Our students range from new students that don't speak any english to students that are high achieving students. We are a 100% Title 1 school with a very limited funding supply to meet the needs of 900 students. We love any help you can give us. With deep gratitude. Mrs. Vaughn
