Research shows that allowing students to learn in comfortable, flexible seating options improves their focus tremendously. With the fulfillment of this project, my classroom would give my deserving scholars other options besides the traditional desk chair or few yoga balls that I have in my room. I would be able to offer my scholars a variety of seating options based on their individualized needs. My scholars would be able to use the standing desk during group instruction, during individual work, and even during test taking, when staying still at a desk is nearly impossible and while trying to stay still and focused, uses up most of their energy in itself. This standing desk and the wobble stools will help my scholars spend more time focusing on the learning and less time on channeling their energy to stay in one, uncomfortable space. These additions to my classroom will allow my scholars to not only feel comfortable while learning, but will give them more control over where and how they learn in order to make the most of our experience together. When I think of how I learn or work comfortably and to the best of my ability, it is rarely at a hard, plastic chair sitting at a desk. Instead, I prefer to rock in a chair, lay on the floor on a pillow, or stand at a table - my scholars deserve these same opportunities in order for them to maximize their success.
