We've Got Spirit but We Need Uniforms!
Funded Oct 30, 2020Thank you so much for helping our squad this year! It has been different, to say the least, but we are certainly making the most of it and cheering on our teams beneath the Friday night lights. Although football season has almost reached its end, your donations will definitely take us into basketball season and beyond.
I'm so excited to share this wonderful news with the squad and can't wait to update you once we receive our items!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Vega

Funded Apr 24, 2018Once again, I'd like to start by saying thank you! In the past few months since we've received our books, I've been able to share these words with over 100 students. Their stories are scattered throughout the halls of our school, intertwined in each line of our books and ingrained in my heart. Having 2 culturally-relevant books available for students to pick up has made reading more accessible and more enjoyable for them.
Currently, my new batch of 9th graders are reading I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter and absolutely LOVING it! It's been so rewarding to read with them and watch their reactions change as we discover new facets of the main character and her journey toward self-discovery. As you know, my students are predominantly latino and come from an urban area of the city. This book has shown them that their stories are relevant and worthy of being written about in fiction, in their notebooks and in history.
Probably the most beautiful gift these books have given us is the ability to have important discussions surrounding sexual consent, mental health, social justice and racism. My students are so smart and have a lot to say. I'm happy that the issues written about in both books have paved the way for the students to express themselves about the things that are going on in the world around them now and in the past.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Vega
