  • Letter/Sound Sorts in Reading Intervention

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you for supporting our reading intervention classroom. By purchasing the Lakeshore Learning Sound Tubs for our students, you are supporting numerous students in increasing their phonemic awareness proficiency which leads to stronger reading skills.

With kindergarten students, I use the sorting tubs for first sound distinction and matching. In addition, we use them in our phonemic awareness and phonics routine. My student's abilities have increased and they have had fun practicing, too.

I also use these tubs with first and second graders for things like generating rhyming words, segmenting, and matching, particularly with medial vowel sounds.

This hands-on approach has been invaluable for students in need of additional support.

Thank you again for supporting our students. This donation is supporting and will continue to support students learning to read.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eggert

  • Struggling Readers Want to Read!

    Funded Dec 16, 2021

Thank you for purchasing so many books for our classroom. I teach readers ranging from "new readers" to students working on skills near their grade level. I typically teach 1 – 5 students at a time. We work on foundational reading skills like phonemic awareness & phonics as well as reading comprehension & fluency.

I have been working to build a library that meets the needs of my intermediate students who are not yet ready for some of the texts their peers read and are no longer interested in many of the books that are at their academic level.

Since your donation arrived, books have been flying off the shelves! Some of my students who typically do anything and everything to avoid reading in class have been some of the most interested, too. It has been exciting to see them finding reasons to read.

Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eggert

My classroom is a K-5th grade reading intervention classroom with students reading well outside their grade level. I am hoping to use these high-interest books to help my students find reasons to pick up a book again and again. The books in our wish list have been hand-selected by my most reluctant readers as I am trying to increase the interest level in my 3rd through 5th grade intervention students so that they, too, find reasons to enjoy reading. One of my 3rd graders picked up a Dog Man book recently and has already asked for the next in the series. This is HUGE since he describes himself as 'hating-reading.' One of my 4th graders is also on a roll reading all of the Bad Guys books and is reading for something new.
