  • PBSIS Rewards: Hydration

    Funded Oct 19, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation that will allow us to continue to provide students incentives to follow the four pillars of our PBSIS program that benefits their social-emotional health and sets positive goals for their future success. Bottle filling stations were recently installed in our school, and using these these insulated water bottles will not only incentivize students, but also encourage students to use these stations instead of bringing plastic water bottles!”

  • Teaching Focus Strategies in the Classroom

    Funded Feb 22, 2018

Thank you for your gift of cell phone holders for the biology science classrooms here at Clifton High School. It is a constant struggle to teach students how to be responsible and teach them to remove distractions from their learning environment. The cell phone holders give a neutral area where students can place their cell phones to minimize distractions to their learning. Many students feel uncomfortable handing their phone to a teacher, and these give students a place to keep their phone where they can see that it is safe and no one will intrude on their privacy. It also allows teachers to give students a choice in solving the problem of cell phones in class. Students can choose between keeping the phone away or placing it in the holder, which allows them to feel more control over their actions.”

  • Chromebooks for Classroom Research (Part 2)

    Funded Sep 6, 2017

Chromebooks are a type of portable computer that are used over wireless internet only. As such, they are very portable and lend themselves well to use in the classroom. Our school has a number of Chromebooks available for student use, however, they are shared among teachers, and while federally mandated testing is occurring, these Chromebooks are not available for use.

My purpose in setting up these Donors Choose projects is to obtain enough Chromebooks for my classroom so that even when the school supplied Chromebooks are unavailable, there are still Chromebooks in my classroom to be used as a resource for my students.

Students are able to use the Chromebooks to research questions they have, watch videos relating to our current topic, and work collaboratively with classmates on projects and assignments. The donation of these Chromebooks allow me to continue to offer my students the flexibility to take initiative and control of their learning in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

The availability of a Chromebook in the classroom specifically for student led research will allow my students to create and investigate their own questions about the impact of our topics on the natural world as they become relevant. For example, one case study we investigate while we are discussing energy is the effect of fossil fuels on our economy, environment, and society. When students have the ability to investigate their own questions, the material becomes personally relevant to their lives. Without a Chromebook easily accessible, students have no choice but to turn to the teacher to find their answers, instead of learning to research and find answers on their own.
