I am requesting funding for an innovative teacher field trip focused on learner diversity and classroom innovation. The teacher field trip experience will help me to incorporate innovative learning styles into my 4th grade classroom. The overall goal for my classroom is to build leaders, to solve real-world problems, and encourage creativity. Each child is unique and through my experiences I can bring back content and knowledge that can relate to each unique child to better their community, the world, and their future. The Atlanta Teacher Field Trip will give me a once in a lifetime opportunity to investigate, collaborate, and re-imaging what school can be. The trip will start with a behind the scenes tour and workshop at the Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta. We'll visit The Garden School, a K-8 school that promotes a nature-immersed, student centered learning environment and The Marietta Student Life Center, a high school with wrap around services to support every need for every student. We will also visit the Captain Planet Foundation, to explore how schools can embrace environmental science for service learning. Other stops include the Georgia Academy for the Blind, Tubman Museum, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historic Park, Teach Your Heart Out Conference, Pink Santa Hat Movement Headquarters, David J. Museum, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Peachtree Publishers, along with many other experiences.
