Students are naturally curious and want to know more about the world. As our world evolves into a technology-focused world, students need to become adept and learn how to use and navigate a computer independently. With that being said, I'd like my students to have access to technology by having more Chromebooks in our classroom.
Right now, we have four Chromebooks, which means only four students can work on them a time. Therefore, a rotation is created and students must wait for their turn in order to have access to technology in my classroom. Students would be able to conduct research on scientific, historical, and health topics. Also, students can also enhance their literacy skills while learning reading comprehension, spelling, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Furthermore, students can improve in their math skills on various math websites. Lastly, the Chromebooks would be utilized for reading and math intervention, ELL programs, and research student-led projects.
Students are engaged when they are learning at their differentiated level and are learning what they can relate to and connect with. Most of my students do not have access to technology at home, and regardless of their socio-economic status, I'd like to provide technology daily in my classroom for my students to prepare for their futures. Thus, students would be allowed to have technology at their fingertips and work effectively. The chromebooks would deepen students' learning and their learning would be extremely focused and engaged. They would not need to worry about waiting for their next turn.
I truly believe that when students are in charge of their learning, it becomes more meaningful and purposeful for the student. Which is why, I'm requesting for more Chromebooks in my classroom for my students to have access to. Student engagement would increase and effective learning would occur.
