My students need a library that developmentally correlates to primary reading levels, an organizational system to store our belongings in, dry erase markers for phonics lessons, and portable cd players to do "close" reading strategies with. Part of developing oral reading fluency is to have it modeled. They will use these resources in small groups and collaborative structures. Students will be able to build words using sounds and listen to books on tape in order to to build fluency as well listening comprehension. Hearing authors read with prosody will help them decode and establish new sight words. The batteries are going to help replace the portable cd players when they run out in their literacy centers. The recently funded listening center is a favorite by far and I want to make sure they have the materials needed to keep it running efficiently. The giant ink pads are going to be used for my students that have poor fine motor skills. This will help restore their self-efficacy as they are able "stamp" their answer for beginning, medial, and final phonemes. Learning to read and comprehend what we read is a quintessential life skill that translates all subject areas and professions.
