Raising The Bar(red Instruments)!

Thank you so much for supporting my music classroom. Xylophones are great for so many reasons! I use them as center time for very young students. Just the other day, my Pre-K class was circulating through 5 different musical instrument stations when the xylophone group figured out Mary Had A Little Lamb completely on their own! I was working with the drums when suddenly I said to myself "Where is that melody from?" These moments of discovery are priceless for children, so thank you!! Upper grades have been utilizing xylophones to accompany guitar classes and learn about strumming and how harmony creates mood for a melody.

When my students first saw the xylophones many of them knew what they were but never saw one in real life. The upper grades' first instinct was to transfer what we learned on the piano. So, I had students attempting Fur Elise, the theme from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, and Despacito.

My dream is to foster a school-wide culture of music where no one is afraid to use their voice expressively and respectfully. Right now, we are learning basic skills on guitar. We just began combining guitar and singing at the same time and xylophones help immensely. Guitars are hard to hold so when we add vocals, students benefit by singing while playing those guitar strumming patterns as rhythms on the xylophones!

Thank you so much!”

With gratitude,

Mr. Danny Campbell
