The Sixth Extinction - a Book All Should Read
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you very much for supporting my classroom. The students thoroughly enjoyed reading the Sixth Extinction These books were a huge asset to our learning and we had a lot of great discussions. In addition, because of the book students were able to get a crash course of all the topics we would be covering in class this year.
We read a chapter a week in class and then the students had discussion questions. Students also learned new vocabulary words, which will help them on standardized testing. The discussions in class were well thought out and very meaningful to our learning.
Again thank you very much for the support to buy The Sixth Extinction for my students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and one other donor.LABS: Loving Applied Biological Science
Funded Nov 22, 2016Thank you very much for you generous donations. The students were very excited to complete different labs that we normally are not able to complete due to funding. My students appreciate the donors very much and were excited to complete multiple LABS throughout the year.
The first lab that we completed was a DNA necklace. Each student extracted their own DNA and then put this into a vial to be worn on a necklace. This helped them to understand the composition of DNA and how to break down the proteins in order to obtain actual DNA.
The second lab we did was a biogeochemical cycle lab. With this lab we created mini ecosystems in our classroom and watched how the ecosystem changed over a month due to variable factors. This was a new hands on approach and I feel it helped students relate what they were learning in class and apply this to the individual ecosystem (aquarium).
The third lab we completed was a population lab. This lab helped students who were more visual learners complete the calculations of population growth.
The End of the school year is upon us and my students and I thank you for your help and support of our classroom and education throughout the year!”

Supplies Needed Desperately!
Funded Oct 27, 2015The students and I were so grateful for the supplies! They were extremely excited to see all the supplies that were donated. They were also grateful to be able to print in the classroom. This helped them with the various projects and they did not have to go to the library. We were able to utilize the posters for many different projects. This included our genetic projects, biogeochemical project, and food web displays. During the biogeochemical cycle the students utilized the post it notes to ask questions as well as the ink that was supplied. In addition, our computer system went down and we were not able to use technology for a week. Luckily, I had the poster boards and markers to help us to keep learning hands on!
Again thank you for helping make the students classroom experience affordable and fun!”

Mrs. Melancon
