I cannot express how thankful I am for your very generous donations. I absolutely love teaching Science, but sometimes it is hard to afford all the materials I need. It is because of amazing people like you that these students get to experience awesome science projects! Thank you so much!”

  • Science at Last!

    Funded Dec 11, 2018

Words cannot describe how thankful I am and my students are for the generous donations you have provided. We live in a rural area and funding for supplies can be tight. I love Science and teaching Science. It is usually my student's favorite subject to do. The more we started doing Science projects, the more materials I realized I needed. This project being funded has been so wonderful for us. I want to take this opportunity to tell you how we will use the materials and how thankful we are for being funded.

I want to start by saying how important it is to have my students read nonfiction books. I have personally seen students raise their reading level because they focused on nonfiction books. The Scholastic News and Scholastic Science papers are a great source for my students to learn new things and read some nonfiction. The magazines match our Science Standards perfectly and the students really love learning the new information. The magazines give the students ideas on what to read from our school library. Once they find something interesting, they want to read more about it. These magazines are such a great help to get my students reading and enjoying nonfiction books.

I am also very thankful for my Daily Science Teacher's book. It is a great way to get more information on a subject for my students. I am so thankful for the donations. Science is so important to me and it feels so great knowing people want to help teachers in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gaskins

  • Our Friendly Neighborhood Insects

    Funded Mar 17, 2014

When my students seen the new items in my classroom, they could not have been more happier. They were so excited for the new paints we received. One student said that they were the prettiest paint colors she had ever seen. The students were so excited to use these paints in our project, as well as in our art center. The students were so impressed with the books we received. The books caught the student's interest and they were so excited to read them. The students and I were very excited for the large writing paper we received. Last, but not least, the students were floored by the bean bag chair. When they saw it, they were begging to be placed in the reading center to comfortably read books on the new bean bag chair. The students were so excited and truly thankful for your donations.

First of all, the students are so excited about the bean bag chair. It was put in the reading center so the students can comfortably lay on the bean bag and read their books. Before the bean bag, the students sat in little plastic chairs, which were not that comfortable, nor exciting. This gives this center a boost because it gets the students excited about going in that center to read and they like the thought of "laying" around in the classroom. The new paints were used for making insect pictures, as well as adding to our art center. The books were great. The students got into pairs and we read them together. "Spiders are not Insects" was a favorite and it really taught the students that spiders do not belong to the insect family.

This project got the students very excited about learning. The new items were so exciting and new to the students. It made them very happy and excited to start the insect project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gaskins

Our school is located in a rural area. The students are exposed to insects every day. It is a big part of their life. By connecting science to their everyday lives, students should more easily be able to learn the science content introduced in the unit. We also live in a very poor community where students have very little exposure to hands on material, such as paint, construction paper, and scissors to build their fine motor skills.
