  • SEL Support

    Funded Jun 30, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. I am humbled by your kindness. The resources provided were picked to assist students who specifically struggle with de-escalation. As I continue to work with today's youth, I have seen more and more how much sensory objects help students to calm down and be able to talk situations out. The effects of the pandemic have left several students struggling with their social and emotional needs. The fidgets especially have been a great tool for them to use during restorative practices.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Books for All!

    Funded Jan 17, 2022

I want to sincerely thank all of you for your generous donations to my classroom. We have been reading these stories in our small groups for a few weeks now, and the students have become so engaged and interested in the stories. Some have even started reading ahead to find out what happens next- even when they are not supposed to! Even my more hesitant readers are excited to be called into small group to read. That has been the biggest win.

I will never be able to adequately put into words just how thankful I feel every time I receive a donation, but please know that I am so grateful for the support I have received from the Donors Choose community.”

  • Engaging ELL's!

    Funded Oct 30, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. My students and I were so excited to receive the headphones. We have started using them right away, to practice speaking English and improve in our proficiency. The Spanish-English dictionaries have also been very helpful with translating unknown vocabulary words. I have seen a tremendous improvement in this short amount of time, I am hopeful that my students will continue to improve as the year goes on. Thank you for remembering us and investing in our futures, we are grateful for your support.”

  • Making Reading Fun!

    Funded Sep 16, 2019

Thank you so much for your king and thoughtful donations to my classroom. The impact these materials have had on my classroom has been incredible! My students and I were overjoyed to receive all the new books for our classroom library- they want to read them all! The book boxes have been extremely helpful with organizing our materials, especially during guided reading and stations. Students are now able to put all materials they will need for my class in their book box. We are eternally grateful for your support as we learn and grow this year. Thank you so much for remembering us.”

  • Excitement in ELA!

    Funded Aug 27, 2019

My students and I are grateful for your support as we begin this new school-year. My students were beside themselves when we received the books to add to our classroom library! The books were "checked out" in a matter of minutes! The group of students I have this year absolutely love to read, so I know that the books that were donated will continue to be a huge hit all year.

The duct tape was helpful in decorating our cardboard book boxes. Students were able to choose a design that fit their personality, and it was fun to see them excited about decorating their own book box and making it unique.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the new office chair. It is so comfortable and fits perfectly behind my small group/ guided reading table. Small group/ guided reading is such an important part of the day because students are able to receive more individualized intervention based on their needs. It is so nice to not have to worry about where I am going to sit or where there is a chair I can grab close by. I love when the students are able to enjoy fun, flexible seating because it makes them excited to sit at my back table; now I get to partake in that excitement too!

Thank you again for remembering my students and I. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful support system behind us rooting for our success!”

  • iClick, YouClick!

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donations to my classroom. The iClickers have made a huge impact on student learning and engagement in the classroom. Students are now able to collect and review their own personal data and use this to guide their learning when working independently in stations. I have seen a significant growth in students taking ownership and making responsible and wise choices of what lessons to work on based off of their personal needs. The flexible seating has also allowed for students to work comfortable in all areas of the classroom. I cannot express how grateful I am for your support to help make this project come to life. Thank you so much!”

  • An Ear-resistable Project!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

On behalf of my students, thank you so much for helping fund this project. The extra aid in writing has been a great resource and visual for struggling writers to understand how to organize their thoughts and put them into writing. The students love going to stations to use the materials because they are fun, helpful, and very interactive. I have also been able to use them in small groups to provide support to those who need it and I've seen an improvement with every student who has used these resources. The head-phones have been a great help- no more wasting time untangling head-phones! Thank you again for your support as we grow as writers.”

  • Fun in Fourth Grade!

    Funded Oct 26, 2017

I want to begin by thanking you for your support. My students were beside themselves when the materials arrived- they were especially excited for the stools for our technology station (which has quickly become their new favorite station!). I have never seen them so excited to work in groups to better their understanding of new vocabulary, or be challenged to write a response to a story they just read. It is because of you and your willingness to provide them these opportunities to become excited about their education and I cannot thank you enough.

The books in the nonfiction reading comprehension kit go perfectly with the unit we are currently studying, which reinforces skills learned in whole group. I've already begun to see an improvement in their self management as they work independently with these materials in smaller groups. They are able to check their understanding and truly see if they comprehend the skill or if they need a little more assistance, and they are excited to do so.

The next step with these learning materials is to allow students to be creative and take their learning one step further. I am hoping that this rejuvenated motivation to take ownership of their learning transfers to creative projects that can be done outside the classroom. It has truly been inspiring to see how the students have embraced these new learning materials and how excited they are to continue learning. I am forever appreciative of your generous contribution to these wonderful students. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Landau

  • Oh The Places You'll Go!

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

The read alouds allow me to reinforce certain skills such as retelling a story, recognizing important events that happen in the story, as well as identifying the problem and solution. The set of beginning reader books help my struggling readers acknowledge high frequency words that have been prominent throughout the classroom the entire year.

Kindergarten is a critical year in developing a strong foundation for reading. It is important for the students to master letter recognition and letter sounds in order to form syllables and begin to join them to form words. On a daily basis my students practice reading in groups and independently in order to perfect these skills. I have watched my students develop a love for reading this year that I hope lasts a lifetime.

My struggling readers have benefited the most from the new books. Before receiving these materials I noticed how disappointed they became when they were unable to keep up with their peers. These books have helped these struggling students regain confidence in their abilities by using simple sentence structure as well as through the use of high frequency words.

On behalf of my students, I thank you for your kindness and support.”

My students come from low-income Spanish speaking families that do not have very much money to help provide materials for the classroom. Though they are willing to work and eager to learn, it is difficult without effective materials. I am a new fourth grade teacher this year (making the jump from Kindergarten) and have no resources for my new classroom. My focus this year is reading and writing, and I serve two classes of 20 ESL students in Houston. My students are well rounded individuals who walk into my room every day ready to work hard. I want to give them the best experience possible this year and help them reach their goals as learners.
