My special education students' are diverse learners with very different and unique. My autistic students have a high need for sensory breaks. Therefore, the supplies I am requesting such as the LED light, the sensory fidget toys, the carpet, the textile plates will be used to create a sensory room. A room where my students will use as their mode of relaxation. It will be a room where my students will go to to calm down, regroup and strengthen their focus. For some of my students, it is a challenge for them to sit still and remain focused. Their bodies are in constant motion. Therefore, the wobble seat cushions, the individual desks and the timers will provide my students with the sensory and movement their body seeks while completing tasks and expanding their learning. My students also have weak fine motor skills and struggle with the simple things that are taken for granted such as: firmly holding a pencil, pinching a clothespin, scooping, pouring and so on. The materials requested such as play dough, paint, easel, and the accessories for the sand and water table are great strategies to motivate my students to explore with while strengthening their hand muscles. My students also have limited verbal and communication skills. Through the use of the various manipulative games and learning materials requested, my students will have more exposure to communicating and expressing themselves through the sharing, creating, and collaboration process. My goal is to expand their communication and fine motor skills while fulfilling their sensory needs. All students deserve the best! I hope my project will be funded so I may provide my students with the best learning experiences possible. My students and I thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
