Back to School Materials for Learning!
Funded Sep 3, 2020With the Back to School Materials for Learning, I was able to efficiently organize student work, documents and materials. I am also able to make colorful graphic organizers and anchor charts for my class. One thing that students were able to do with the book rings were to make math fluency flash cards that they can keep in their folders when practicing their math multiplication facts.
My students were amazed that donors made contributions to support our classroom. Coming in after the pandemic, they did not know what to expect but we know as educators we have to make students feel warm, welcome and safe in a learning environment. This act proved to students that there is positive and hope in a world of uncertainty.
The next steps is to have students become more independent by creating ways to have them organize their work and materials on their own. As my students are getting older and wiser, we hope to instill this in our students so that they can be more confident and independent in what they do.”

Funded May 4, 2021With your generous donation of a Cricut maker and supplies, I was able to make labels and signs throughout the classroom to welcome them back after an entire year of remote learning. When they walked into their new classroom, it was present that students were excited for a brand new year with students they were happy to see and ones that they were going to form new friendships with. Seeing them walk into their fifth grade classroom, their last year before moving onto Middle School will be forever remembered.
When students walked into their class and I have told them about this donation, they were excited to get creative and also use this as well. We plan on using this to create new projects that they can take home and remember.
Thank you for your generous donations!”

Funded Sep 16, 2020Before schools opened, there was uncertainty surrounding safety of reopening. We wanted to be prepared before schools reopened, and with your kind donations, we were able to be certain and provide our students with clean, improved air quality with the air purifiers for our classroom. We make sure that we turn it on, even when windows are open so that students or teachers who do have allergies are in a learning environment where they feel safe to come back every day to do what we love to do best- teach!
At first, our students had no idea what air purifiers look like or what they do. So, we described and showed them what its purpose was for. Boy- were they intrigued! Many questions arose and we had meaningful discussions about why every classroom should get one and why they felt like they need one at home too! Although they might not SEE the difference an air purifier makes, they certainly FEEL it. Students expressed that outside may be stuffy and they can't breathe well, but as soon as they come into the classroom, that all goes away. It really does make a difference- physically and academically as this makes learning in face masks manageable!
As next steps, we want to continue to provide our students with the best education possible so that they can become successful individuals. We strive to help and support all students in our community, that is our first priority. Whether is it socio-emotional or academically, we are there for our students every step of the way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for looking out for our entire school community.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020During these unprecedented times, it was crucial that our school community was stocked with PPE supplies for students, teachers, and those who were not able to retrieve such supplies. Students were very eager to come back into the school building to learn and we couldn't have been able to do this without your donations. There were many times when we were low in stock of PPE supplies and did not know when another shipment would come in, but with your donations, we had backup supplies for our school community.
At first, our students did not understand why we needed extra amount of PPE supplies. We had explained to them the situation we were in and in order to learn in a safe and hygienic environment, these supplies would keep us going.

Thank you again!”

Funded Apr 16, 2019Once we got the flexible seating options, I created a schedule in which all students get to use alternative seating throughout the week! To my surprise, some of my students were amazed at the lap desks and prefer those instead of a seating cushion. For instance, for a student that usually sits at his table for lessons is now using the recliner seating option to do his work when it is his day for flexible seating. The choices around the classroom has made it more enjoyable and engaging for students to participate and do their work throughout the day.
When I first got many of the boxes, my students were questioning what was inside of the boxes. Surely, it was another Christmas during the springtime for all of us. They were eager to learn how to use the lap desks because they haven't seen anything like them before. They also even used the cushion along with the lap desks for extra support for their lower bodies. The way that my students can be innovative with the flexible seating has really had an impact on their learning and each other. They look forward to using them when it is their day to use them and I even sneak in some bonus moments throughout the day so that they can get another chance to sit on them...
The final unit that my students will be working on is the Fantasy Unit. During this unit, students are to read comics/fantasy chapter books and get to write their very own comics. I can't wait to see my students use their creativity and imagination to produce their own comics. We saved the best for last!”

Funded May 29, 2018Now that we are launching the Fractions Unit for 4th and 5th Grade, the students can finally use the fraction tiles and fraction building kit to better help them understand the relationships between fractions! In lieu of the class activities as well as preparing for statewide exams, both of the fractions kits have been put to great use.
For example, when my students learned about equivalent fractions, we used the fraction tile kit in order to better understand the parts that make a whole within the fractions. My students were able to decompose fractions by moving around the tiles (so wonderful that they are tangible and students can learn in a fun way)! The colors are definitely helping my students better understand the fact that two halves make a whole. Three thirds is also equivalent to 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3. The students also wanted their own fraction kit so based on the one that I sampled for the students, we also created our own out of paper. And they enjoyed that just as much!
Of course in September, when the materials had arrived, I couldn't use them right away because we weren't learning about fractions yet. I even put the fraction building kit by the Math Resource Center and students were eager to play and move around the fractions. It lighted up some background knowledge from deep within! Now when they actually got to use the fraction building kits and tiles to help them grasp the concept of fractions, they always want to use the fraction kits as a visual to help them with fractions. This makes me so satisfied knowing that these materials have helped them tremendously!
As some of the next steps, we will be continuing fractions (adding and subtracting fractions as well as ordering fractions from least to greatest. I know that students are having a difficult time with comparing fractions and these kits come into great use when we are able to move the parts around. We also share our answers and explanations so having multiple pieces in the kit allows ALL the students to use it at once. Thank you once again!”

Technology is Evolving Faster Than Language!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations! Because of you, my students were able to conduct research on their American Revolution topics. Besides the two computers that we have in the classroom, the students loved the fact that they were able to use the iPads wherever and whenever they wanted. They loved the fact that it was touch screen and that it was easy for them to navigate. The portable devices also helped my students read along to the different reading programs by listening and following along. Since my students come from low-income households and their parents can't provide them with iPads, getting the chance to use them in the classroom was something they looked forward to everyday in class.
When students earned their rewards in class, they also had the opportunity to play educational games on the iPad and they really enjoyed it. They were able to teach each other on both an educational and enjoyable level. Most of all, they were able to enjoy learning the way its supposed to be! In a class of 27 students, they even wanted to come up during lunch to listen and teach each other how to use the iPads. It was definitely rewarding and emotional to see my students use the iPads since most of them don't have the opportunity or access to technology at home. Again, thank you from the bottom of my students and my heart for giving them an opportunity to learn in a fun and accessible way.”
