  • What Matters Most

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Millionaires for the Month was such a fun book to bring to our class. Thank you for helping to provide this tale to our class. It truly teaches the value of a dollar. Learning all about how the characters shared and spent their new found fortune inspired us to

explore a variety of ways to share and spend our imaginary wealth. Some of us chose to share our imaginary fortune with organizations that feed the world, organizations that house the world, and organizations that help others. Thank you again for helping our class see how choices can change the world.”

  • Scientific Sensations

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for providing the book Hidden Figures for our class. What a tale of math, science, perseverance, and making a difference! Being that the story revolves around NASA, we were excited to try sending some paper airplanes into our space to see how they fly.

We learned all about variables and then added weights and design variations to see which would fly best. We learned how to iterate and make changes to our designs to get them to fly the most effectively. Hidden Figures inspired us to persevere when things got tricky.”

  • A Trip to Olympus Academy

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Eliza Raines's trilogy that you helped provide became some of the most loved literature in our class throughout the year. Following the characters through three books, we came to know them well. We identified their traits, their change over time, and discerned the themes across the books.

From our reading, we were able to write a final chapter to the series. Some students chose cliffhangers. Some chose to wrap up all of the story's lose ends. Others chose to introduce new adventures. These books were wonderful inspiration for our class in both reading and writing. Many thanks!”

  • The Power of Stories

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for bringing this Newbery award winning book to our classroom. What a treat to read a story about family! The story shared the importance of having older family members to share traditions and family tales and adventures.

Reading the story, we learned to appreciate our elders and to value their wisdom and all that they can teach us about our family history.

By reading these stories, we were inspired to thank our family members for all that they have done to make each of our families important and special.”

  • Real Kids Can Make a Difference

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

What an exciting opportunity you gave us! Having first hand stories to read and learn from has opened the doors to examine how we will make the world a better place. Through the generous donation of these books, we have had the chance to read about kids all over the world who are making a difference. They have truly inspired us to do the same, and we can't thank you enough for making these books possible.

As we read and discussed these individual tales, students were inspired to make the world a better place. Students created plans to improve something at home, something in their neighborhood, or something around the world. From creating a plan to get the dog exercise to sharing books with kids who don't have them, these stories inspired us to put make the world a better place.

We can't thank you enough for bringing these books and their inspiration to our class. You helped us make a difference. Many thanks!”

  • Awesome Author Study With Award Winning Writer Jason Reynolds

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you so much for the collection of Jason Reynold's books. As students read the three novels, they examined the characters, identified admirable traits, and compared and contrasted themselves with the characters.

Reynold's books opened new doors for my students as they examined how the characters changed over time and what influenced those changes. The stories catalyzed interesting and engaging conversations as students discussed the positive and negative influences on the protagonists and on kids today.

Your generous donation brought books to our class that made a lasting and important impact. I can't thank you enough!”

  • Social Issues and Seeing Others

    Funded Oct 14, 2020

What a gift you gave our class with the social issues book shelf! Through these treasures, students have been able to see how others deal with issues common to kids their age. Each book tells the tale of kids who become stronger and learn life lessons through their challenges. With the help of friends and family, characters learn that the lessons of life are better dealt with in community. What a gift these books are! Thank you for bringing our community together through these books and for supporting our growth as readers and people. Your gift is greatly appreciated.”

  • Becoming Informed Citizens

    Funded Oct 14, 2020

Wow! What a difference the Scholastic Newspaper has made in our class. Our first edition arrived the week before the presidential election. The kids and I were so excited. Everyone opened their electronic copy and read all about the candidates. The newspaper did a wonderful job presenting the candidate's positions on 6 important topics.

Using the information gleaned from reading, students created posters for their candidate of choice using Canva. (Some of the photos are linked to our thank you.) With the Scholastic News, the information is so accessible, students were able to read and understand.

Prior to election day, using all that we learned about the candidates, students wrote about their position on class topics. They created candidate statements, and we held our own class election on election day. We had 8 students who ran. We elected a president, a vice president, and the remaining 6 candidates are the president's cabinet of advisors. We continue to enjoy the news each week and learn so much. Thank you!”

  • History Day Happenings

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Our History Day projects were a huge success this year thanks to your generous donations. Students self-selected topics of interest that they then researched. The culmination was the presentation of all that was learned using the Donor Choose provided back boards. Students took such pride in designing their boards in interesting and creative ways and sharing all that they had learned in intriguing and interesting ways.

Thank you for contributing to our students' success and to the success of our first History Day. After viewing the presentations and enjoying the display boards, one student was overheard saying, " I can't wait for History Day next year." Thanks for your contribution in helping our students such a memorable experience.”

  • Awesome Authors-Published and Printed

    Funded Oct 30, 2019

Having the ECO-Tank colored printer in our classroom changed the way we wrote and published our writing this year. Thanks to you, students were able to publish their pieces in book format, share their published work with one another, and celebrate their growth as writers.

Your generous donation helped my students see themselves as published authors. Being able to share a finished book with others and go to the classroom library and enjoy the work of peers was so both encouraging and empowering.

Without our ECO-tank printer, publication would not have been possible. We can't thank you enough.”

I teach an amazingly inquisitive group of fourth graders who are going to change the world with their intellect and their heart. We spend our days questioning, discovering, and creating. Our classroom is a workshop where learning is celebrated. We are a community of learners who come together each day and through our reading, writing, and problem solving, challenge ourselves to learn new things. We are 21st century learners who use inquiry-based projects that stem from our personal interests to create solutions. Our goal is to make the world a better place through our individual actions as well as our collective class actions. Whether we are building a cardboard arcade to help hurricane victims or writing books that will help fill libraries in underprivileged areas, we are a group striving to use our skills and discoveries for good, to help others. And all the while ours is a classroom where learning is fun.
