  • Art Unlocks Creativity and Engagement

    Funded May 30, 2024

You cannot understand the amount of joy my students have because we have an actual art club for them to express their creativity. To see the students sketching and planning events to showcase their art is so exciting and I am excited for them. We have students with drawing experience but we also have some who are drawing so we have enough supplies for everyone to practice at home.

In the upcoming months, we plan to have an art showcase for students to show what they have been creating as well as a pop-up shop for them to sell their art. Thank you again for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thurman

  • A Different World

    Funded Jul 6, 2024

My heart is full! Thank you so much for your donations because my kids have been eagerly requesting new books and these are their recommendations. We are always grateful whenever we can add new titles to our collection! I would not have the diverse classroom library if it was not for your kindness.

Because of you all, I cannot keep up with the recommendations coming from my students! They love that they can access their interests while also reading books related to their courses. It is a nice break from academic reading. Reading in my class is a daily action. I love that the guys are becoming more interested in the books as well because I have included more books from male authors. We tend to forget about male readers so I try to keep in mind that they need books too! Thank you again and I wish you many blessings!”

  • (S)He Is Just Like Me!

    Funded Aug 27, 2023

Anytime I can come through for my students, my. heart is always full. Thank you so much for your generous donations because it made my children smile. Before I could finish unboxing my books, the students were already calling dibs on which books they would check out! I love it every time!

In my classroom, students have the autonomy to pick a book of their choice for extra credit projects, independent reading, and novel studies. Because I have a diverse collection, there is something for those who love to read and even those who do not know where to start because they do not read for pleasure. My avid book readers are enjoying the new books so much because we have reading fair and projects coming up and they love to cover a newer book.

Again, Thank you so much for you kindness because I feel very blessed to be in a position where I can help my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thurman

  • A Clean Environment Creates a Safe Learning Environment

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

I am back at school after being on maternity leave and one of the first things my students mentioned was the lack of cleaning supplies we had! Once I informed them about the Lysol, they were extremely happy to start back spraying down the desks and areas of high contact. We clean the room after every class; therefore, it is important to have a nice supply of cleaning materials because students are still getting sick from Covid and the flu. We are so thankful that you all assisted to help us get our supplies and have a room with cleaner air because of the purifier.”

  • Diversity In Reading

    Funded Sep 10, 2022

Seeing my students lined up weekly to check out books that you all helped me obtain is a joy that I will never forget. They are eager to devour one just to obtain another one. I enjoy their feedback on books and I love their recommendations on what books I should get next! Reading in my classroom is something that happens often and without judgement. Students pick books based on their reading level while I always encourage them to read something bigger the next time. There are students who have started checking out books in the morning and bring them back when have finished. All I can think of is this would not be possible without your help. Thank you again for all that you have done because it has impacted more children than you know.”

It is important that I reach my students through their interests. There is no better way to improve their love of reading than by providing them with a diverse collection to assist them with learning what genres interest them! Struggling readers often pick up graphic novels or manga because it is less intimidating. I want my students to delve into a new world when they are reading and turn it into a hobby rather than a requirement. My student will appreciate the diversity in our classroom library. These will be conversation-starters!
