Keep Us Warm
Funded Nov 26, 2021My students loved all of the new coats they received. They were so excited and wanted to wear them all day, even in the classroom where it was nice and warm. The looks on their faces were pure joy to see. I loved how they told each other they like their coats.
I have a special needs to student. He was so excited to get a new coat. He was very upset the next day because he forgot his new one at home and had to wear kids old. Since that day he's wore it everyday. My students have been warm every day since and has not had to worry about a coat. Thank you to all of our wonderful donors.”

Stop the Noise!
Funded Oct 21, 2021We received our new headphones. My kids are loving them. They are able to focus on their iPads and only hear the information that is needed for them. The noise is down to a whisper since my students are working with having to replay each question several times. The new headphones are easy to use and to adjust to the students head size. The earpieces are soft and do not hurt their ears. They are willing to use these headphones and not fuss about having to use them.
I love the color of these headphones and the durability of them. The cords are thick and do not get tangled easily. I also, have a student that loves keeping the headphones on while he is not using the iPad. He says, "They help keep the noise out." So, I let him use them during his daily work.”

Funded Jul 29, 2021Thank you for supporting our classroom. Our supplies have arrived and we have been using them throughout the beginning of the school year. Each student received a big eraser and some of the pencil cap erasers. My students are using the pencils to enhance their writing skills. We have been using the index cards to make flash cards for our sight words.
When my students first saw the supplies, they love the pencil cap erasers the best. They were excited that they were allowed to choose the colors they wanted for their pencils. They love getting sight words on colored cards.
I had one student that said he never gets new supplies for school. He loved getting all the supplies. Seeing the smile on his face is what makes writing these projects priceless.”

Funded May 20, 2021Many of my students come from low-income based families, however; we are still using technology at home. We are a one-to-one iPad school, therefore; every student has an iPad to use at home and school. We are using a program call IXL for home based learning. We are in-person four days a week and virtual on Friday.
I have been making flash cards for my students to use at home and also a set to use in the classroom. Many of my students have fallen behind and we have been tutoring kids in our after school program. I have been creating a set of flashcards for after school as well. COVID has impacted our students in so many ways...none of which have helped our kids.
Some of my students do not like using technology at all. I have one that does ask if their work can all be done on the iPad but that is only because he does not like to write.”

Funded Apr 29, 2021Many of these books were above my kids reading level. So, I read the books to them as we studied about the constellations. After I read the books, I would put them out on the shelf for the kids to look at and read what that could. My students would look at the constellations and draw them out on black paper with white colored pencils. They love learning about the constellations and would look up in the sky at night and try to locate them. They were so excited about this unit of study.
As my students are in the beginning stages of learning to read. I have been teaching them to read the books the correct way. They had to learn how to hold the books and learn to read from left to right. My students have begun to read to themselves. We also do flashlight reading. I turn the lights out in the classroom and allow my students to read under their desk with the flashlights.
I have one student that will get one of the books about the constellations every day to read. His mom said he wants to look at and talk about the stars every night. I love that he wants to continue to learn about the constellations.”

Funded Mar 16, 2021We receive the books from this project. My students were so excited that they would actually get to take these books home and get e to keep them. We read the books aloud and then the students read them to a partner. One of the skills that I introduce was the correct way to read a book. Which is from left to right. I had a student that was left handed and always seemed to try and do everything backwards. I showed them the correct way to hold the book to read as well. Sometimes students get in a hurry and try to rush through things and not do them correctly. They realize that by holding the book correctly, it made the story easier to read.
After they read them to their partner, I gave them a small flashlight, turned out the lights and let them read under their desks. They loved reading under their desks and asked to do it more often.
I had a student that really struggled with reading but once they figured out that a lot of the words were repetitive they really like the books.”

Funded Feb 13, 2021We are using the cabinet to store our scrapbook paper and supplies that we are using to make the books. We are storing scissors and stickers that are needed to help decorate the pages with. My kids each chose some of their favorite moments from this school year and created pages for their memory books.
When we received the supplies, the girls loved the sparkly or glittery pages the best. The boys did not seem to have preference. They where more excited to see the cabinet being put together. They loved watching it being put together and were even allowed to help with some parts.
As my kids continue with this project, they worked on putting their pages together and in a three ring binder. By the end of the school year, each kid had about 12 pages in the memory book. Some had more. This was a fun project with the kids.”

Feed Our Knowledge
Funded Jan 18, 2021With these new supplies, I was able to provide each of my students with 2 new water bottles each and provide a daily snack to them for the remainder of our school year. I was very glad that we were able to do that for them.
My students were so excited to see the new water bottles. They loved the colors, which were teal and coral. I think the boys were more excited to get the coral than the girls were. I think the liked the cookies the best. Another item they are enjoying is the electric stapler. They think that it is fun to get to staple their own papers.
As we continued the rest of our school year, my kids were excited to use their water bottles and have daily snacks. This year was a little rough on all of us but these supplies helped brighten their year.”

Funded Jan 14, 2021We received the books and my kids loved them. I read several of them out loud and then let the students read them to themselves. One way that we used these books were by practicing our sight words. I would make a list of words on the whiteboard and the students would read the books and when the found one of the words they would write the word and page number it was on. They loved writing the words down because I had them used post-it notes and stick them on the wall.
When my students read to themselves, the find a corner or read under their desks with a flashlight. The love getting to use the flashlights because I turn all the lights out. This is our quiet time.
I had a lower student that loved some of the books because of the pictures. They could almost tell the story just from the pictures.”

Funded Dec 1, 2020We received our supplies just in time for Christmas. We made several different crafts. The kids really like making the bracelets with the charms. They were able to complete 3 ornaments to hang their tree at home. Some of them said they hung theirs on their bedroom wall. They were all so excited to make these crafts.
When they saw all of the supplies, they want to start working on them and not do their classwork. So, I used them as an incentive. When they finished their classwork, they could make one of the crafts. Some were able to make more ornaments than others but they all completed three.
I am hoping the I will be able to using the wood burning tool for years to come. I did not let the students use it but they did paint the crafts made from it.”
