STEMing in First
Funded Nov 4, 2022We having been using our resources for different types of stem activities as well as arts and crafts. We have used the ink pads to complete Valentine's gifts for their parents. They have used the tissue paper to see how much weight it could hold. We started with something small like paper clips then added heavy objects like scissors and glue. The kids were excited to see how much weight it would hold without breaking.
When we received the supplies, they were excited to see all the materials to build things with. They wanted to complete all of the projects right then. We do stem activities on Friday's after we take our weekly tests.
One of the projects they are looking forward to completing is the sailboat project. They will get to design a sailboat and see if it floats or sinks.”

Funded Sep 20, 2022We received our supplies as we started the new school year. Students were given snacks every other day for the first two months of the school year. Students and parents were excited to know that their child would receive snacks and they would not have to help supply them. We also received disinfectant wipes, which the students used after having snacks. We also use them on a daily basis to clean up at the end of the day.
When my boys saw the snacks, they were so excited and wanted to eat them immediately. They really like the fruit gummies but was not very excited about the disinfectant wipes. They did not want to have to help clean, especially since they are all boys.
One of the boys said they don't get to have gummies at home because of his baby sister. So, for his snack he always wanted to the gummies for his snack. He would separate them by color and shape before he would eat them. I'm not sure why he would do that but it fun to watch and see how he would sort and eat them.”

Funded Nov 6, 2022Thank you for helping provide new coats and gloves to my boys. Last night, we have our first round of winter snow. It was earlier this year. We awoke to snow covered grounds, however; due to temperature the roads were not covered. The boy all come in wearing their new coats and gloves. They said, "these coats are keeping us hot." I replied, "Good that's what they are suppose to do." I cannot express how happy it makes me to see them happy.
My boys were so excited to see the coats. They started calling out what color they wanted. And could not wait to try them on. It was like Christmas for them. It was so amazing to see them so happy.
I hope they loved them and appreciate them very much.”

Art for My Kiddos!
Funded Aug 7, 2022The first project my boys want to complete was the suncatchers. They had so much fun painting them. They were so excited to take them home and hang them in their windows.
Next we painted the rocks. I hide them around the school campus for them to find. They each painted two rocks. Once they found the rocks, they were able to keep them and take them home as well. I think they had so much fun painting and finding the rocks.
They loved all of the art supplies. With such a small group of kids, I am able to incorporate art into almost all subject areas. We will continue to use these supplies until we run out of them. Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts will becoming up very soon and these supplies will come in very handy.”

Let's Get Reading!
Funded Jun 21, 2022We have been reading these books during reading groups. I have a class of all boys this year and they are loving these books. Dig, Scoop, Ka-Boom is one of their favorites. The also like Crash, Boom, Roar because it is about Disney's The Good Dinosaur. They think its pretty fun that they all get to read the same books.
These books are on grade level for some of my students. The ones that are not on level still like to try to read them be cause they are getting to read chapter books. These books have helped boost their moral while reading.
I have a student that is very low and has retained some much from reading these books. He can now pick out words in other books that he recognizes from these books. I am so proud of how far he has came this year.”

Funded Feb 4, 2022We received our items for our gardening project. It took a little longer to receive the potting soil. Once, we received the potting soil; we planted some of the seeds. As we waited and watch for them to grow, the weather decided it did not want to cooperate with us. It began to rain and didn't seem to want to stop. Unfortunately, most of our seeds either washed out or rotted. We still have seeds left and plan on trying it again this spring.
My students loved all of the gardening books that came with the project. I think they loved the book "Poop On The Potato Farm" the best. It had a lot of interesting facts about potatoes in it. They also loved getting to play in the dirt. They also enjoyed watching the water level on the raised flower bed. It had a stem that would go up and down as the water levels changed.
We will be continuing this project in the spring. Hopefully, the seeds will grow and my students will get to try some of the things we will plant. This has been a fun project.”

Funded Dec 29, 2021My students received their supplies. They were excited to receive new tooth brushes and tooth paste. I think they were more excited about the shampoo. They took these supplies home and came back the next day saying how the used all of the items the night before. They were excited that they did not have to share with their siblings.
They loved all of the supplies and the fact that they had their own bag to keep them in. My kids have asked if they were going to get more shampoo this year. They loved it all.
One of my student was excited because he was actually going to get to use shampoo. He said, "Most of the time I just get to wet my hair and not use soap. Now, I will get to wash my hair." It's sad to think some kids don't have or get their basic needs met. However, thanks to all of my Donors; my kids will get too.”

Funded Nov 29, 2021We are using the materials to make Easter crafts and Mother's day gifts. We have been making bunnies and Easter eggs with the supplies. My students have been so egg-cited to make these crafts. We still have a few steps to go before they are complete.
When my students saw all of the paper, they asked what are we going to make? We decided that we would make Easter crafts and Mother's day gifts as we are nearing the end of the school year. I always try to make sure my kids have something to give to their moms or grandmas.
I have a student that has struggled with cutting all year. He has made some much progress and his cutting has improved so much with these crafts. He was so excited that his cutting looked like the other kids. I believe that by coping his pages on cardstock, which is a little stiffer paper...it has helped his cutting skills.”

Funded Nov 27, 2021We use index cards on a weekly basis. We have eight new sight words a week. I write the sight words on white labels with colored sharpies. I use the colored sharpies because some students respond to colored words better.
When my students saw all of the index cards, they asked; will we use all of those for our sight words? I told them yes and probably more. I make 12 sets of sight words every week.
One of my students said they are saving all of their sight words for their younger sibling. They said that I wouldn't need to make them for them next year because they could use the same ones. I thought that was very nice and ask that student to teach their sibling the words.”

Funded Dec 1, 2021We received all of our snacks before Christmas break. I had sacks for the goodie bags. I was able to fill two bags of snacks for my students to have over the break. T
They were so excited to receive these snacks. Sadly, these snacks may have been all that some of the students had to eat over the break. I worry when my kids are out over long periods of time. As teachers, we see how much or less that students eat when they are at school. You can almost always tell which students have food to eat and which ones don't.
I had one student ask if they had to share their snacks with their brothers and sister. I told him that was up to him and his parents. I was not going to make him because the snacks were given to him.”
