Classroom Incentives
Funded Jul 29, 2023Thank you so much for helping my class get incentives! These have been an absolute hit with the students. They love all of the items in the treasure box! The most popular items were the squishy toys and Play-Doh!
These incentives have helped me reward students for exceeding class expectations. By setting classroom expectations, my students and I have created a learning environment that promotes hard work and resilience. Students are encouraged by these incentives and work hard to do their best!
My school year started off great with your support! Thank you again!”

Storage Bins for Organizing
Funded Jun 17, 2022Thank you for the storage bins! It has helped our class stay organized, clean, and efficient! Let me tell you exactly how it has helped out.
We have been able to store away our math manipulatives. Students can see through the bins and access the materials they need to easily. These keep the manipulatives in a specific bin and helps the materials stay clean! For example, all of the math cards we use to play various games are stored in the bins.
We also used the bins to store away arts and craft materials. Again, it is so easy for students to see what materials we have and access them independently! The bins help find homes for all of the materials. We have markers, stencils, tissue papers, string, and more in the smaller bins.
Such a simple item like storage bins helps students grow their independence. It boosts their creativity and helps them choose their own pathways! Most of all, it keeps everything organized and clean.
Thank you so much!”

Bippity Boppity Books
Funded May 3, 2022Thank you for helping us end our writing unit this year with a "happily ever after" ending. The entire third grade studied original fairy tales and created their own adapted version of their favorite beloved fairy tale. Students had to understand what made a fairy tale a fairy tale and then used these elements to design their own stories. We went through the entire process starting with brainstorming ideas and changing original elements like characters, problems, and endings. Then ended with editing, revising, and writing or typing out parts to paste into the blank books. The students LOVED creating illustrations for their fairy tales. Different classes celebrated in various ways such as reading their stories with second graders, creating FlipGrids, and a mini-movie.
The students were genuinely proud of their work and excited to show their writing with others. It was rewarding to see them eager to share their final pieces. We couldn't have had such a great ending without your generosity.
The third grade teachers thank you so much!”

Ms. Choi

Funded Sep 10, 2021THANK YOU for helping our class get the boost it needed in the beginning of the school year! Ever since we have received our materials, it's been ultilized daily. The students were excited to have their own space for their belongings. Each student received a magazine holder with their corresponding number. Students use it to store their notebooks and folders. This cubby space is such a stable in our classroom!
The student toolbox is one of my favorite new classroom items. This toolbox stores classroom supplies for adults and students in the classroom. Students can independently retrieve supplies that they need and they aren't afriad to let me know when I need to replenish the supplies! It makes me so proud to watch my students help one another out. I'll hear students say, "You need an eraser? A bandaid? A paper clip? A sharpie? I can show you!" or "Hold on Ms. Choi, I need to get a paper clip for my writing."
Again, thank you so much for helping my students. It is so rewarding to teach these students and to watch them grow!”

Readers Seeking New Adventures
Funded Oct 23, 2020I cannot express how grateful the Second Grade Team is for your generous donation! During these trying times, it gave us, especially our students such joy and genuine excitement. As soon as the packages were opened, students were bursting with energy and couldn't wait to get a hold of the new reading materials.
With your help, we were able to update the libraries across our ENTIRE grade! We were able to refill our empty series bins with new copies and even introduce new series like the Yasmin series to our students. The students were thrilled to book shop for new books and discover new characters and their stories.
If you looked at their book baggies now, they are completely filled will these new books. We are currently teaching our students how to monitor their reading. Our students are working on using post-its to help them recall important parts such as character feelings, problems/wants, solutions/attempts, and character lessons. Students are using these to retell what they have read in sequential order. Students are also tackling trouble words when reading these new books. They are practicing how to STOP at trouble words and use an array of strategies to help them solve trouble words.
Our second graders will continue to do big and important work like this that will stick with them forever as readers. Again, your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

Ms. Choi

Funded Oct 19, 2019Thank you so much for helping our project!
When our class received the packages of materials, my students were absolutely thrilled! My students knew that these new materials would help us continue the everyday tasks of 2nd grade.
We immediately began using the materials! For example, our writing workshop continued to thrive! My students, who are becoming more and more independent day by day, use Scotch tape to secure their newly added details onto their drafts. These revisions consist of sentences that help readers picture what the writer is explaining. This is one way the materials are used to foster independence.
As a class, we record different strategies, definitions, and examples on post-its and display them around the class. These mini-posters are easily accessed by students who are attempting to create their own goals or to use as a reminder.
At this time, the 2nd grade team is working on compiling different math games for guided math groups. These consist of games and tasks to strengthen students' mathematical skills. With the materials from this project, I can create durable sets of games and have them ready to use in Ziploc bags. This not only helps myself to be organized, but my students as well. Organized materials make it easier for my students to use and clean up by themselves.
Again, thank you so much. I truly appreciate all that you have done!”

REAL Books for Our REAListic Fiction Writing
Funded Feb 5, 2019Sending the most GIGANTIC thank you to you! The second graders have published their Realistic Fiction stories and could not have been more proud of their work. What made this end of the unit stand out from the rest were all of the materials we received to make their stories become real storybooks. Just like the mentor texts we studied!
With your help, we made our mentor text collection larger, which allowed our students to be exposed to different kinds of realistic fiction story lines and story elements. For example, the characters in Fireflies and Jabari Jumps face problems that second graders could relate to. They were able to see how the character felt, thought, and reacted to these realistic problems. Not only were students able to relate to the problem, but the students studied how these authors showed these parts, helping us create the mind movie we aim to do in our own writing.
Even though we are finished with our realistic fiction unit, we continue to use these mentor texts for our reading workshops. Many of the texts are rich with figurative language, something that our current unit is focused on. We reread these mentor texts to NOTICE & STOP at figurative language, then think about what the author is trying to tell us and why the author would use that kind of "fancy" language. What is great about rereading these texts and using these in our lessons is that students are already familiar with the stories and their characters. It makes it easy and efficient to use examples for our lessons so we can give more time for our students to independently read and work on reading strategies to become stronger readers.
Again, thank you on behalf of the entire second grade body.”

Ms. Choi
Beat the Heat
Funded Aug 28, 2018Thank you so much for helping our students BEAT the HEAT! We are all so thankful to have these portable air conditioning units installed in our classrooms to create the "cool" and comfortable atmosphere we want for our students.
When our students saw the air conditioners installed and running, they were thrilled! They were yelling, "FINALLY!" and "This feels so good!" You could immediately tell by looking at their faces the relief and joy they feel for having a cool room. Our students especially cherish the air conditioners after coming back from gym class or recess. They always ask if the air is on and if the room is cool.
We are so grateful for your support. Thank you again for being such COOL donors!”

Ms. Choi
Second Grade Writing Gripping Realistic Fiction Stories
Funded Apr 12, 2018Thank you for donating to our class project! Our students worked on developing a story for weeks and celebrated their hard work with a publishing party that showcased their realistic fiction stories in real books. Our students were not only authors, but illustrators as well! The students truly felt like they were authors of award winning books, just like the mentor texts we used to study.
It brings us, the second grade team, true joy seeing how proud the students are of themselves. We appreciate what you have done for our second graders.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Choi
For the Love of Reading
Funded Sep 18, 2017Thank you SO much for your generous donations. With this project, our library has grown and the students are absolutely elated to read the new additions.
This week, the students were introduced to the most powerful reading tool to help them keep track of longer books: a reading partner! Students have been buddy reading to help monitor their reading. Together, reading partners select a book, make a plan, and ask each other questions. My students have meaningful book talks with their partners, which makes reading so much more exciting! Now my students have access to new stories that they can explore with their reading partners!
These fictional stories will have new characters for partners to learn about and come across new problems. One of my students were reading one of the books from the Pedro series and noticed a familiar face, Katie Woo! Katie Woo has been a popular series that many of my students love. My student eagerly showed me and then the class this riveting discovery! The class thrilled to see a connection between the two series.
Thank you again. You are expanding my students' love for reading and it is truly priceless.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Choi
