Little Authors, Big Minds!
Funded Oct 15, 2018Thank you for supporting Little Authors, Big Minds! We have had a blast turning our thoughts and writings into books that we can revisit and share with our family and friends. We have written about our opinions on recess, our knowledge about elephants, and even clue writings to practice our inferring skills. One student wrote:
"I am at a place where tables and napkins. They even pizza and hotdogs burgers too. And I gave him a tip too. Where am I?"
This made reading the book feel like a fun and exciting game! They loved hearing if their friends figured out their location. Thanks again for all the support!”

Crazy for Chromebooks!
Funded Sep 18, 2018Thank you for supporting Crazy for Chromebooks! This project has helped to establish a computer station in our room where students can utilize our online programs and improve their reading and writing capabilities! My students love when they can race their class mates in various sight word games and these Chromebooks bring that excitement alive everyday! These Chromebooks also make it possible to facilitate choice time on Fridays when students can choose how it is they want to spend the rest of their school week. Thanks again!”

Funded Aug 26, 2018Thank you for supporting me and my students with several black and white ink cartridges as well as several color cartridges! This makes printing homework, newsletters, assessments, and reading passages much easier. It also provides me with the chance to work from home as well by printing materials for my students after I've left the classroom for the day. As you probably already know ink is VERY expensive and teachers need ink to make daily activities possible! We appreciate your generosity in supporting this project!!”

Funded Aug 28, 2018We are so grateful for your generosity and support of our Basic is Best project! My students have loved using the watercolors and the paints. They were thrilled to use the foam paint and the glue sticks too! Additionally, the homework folders have been AMAZING and students know exactly which one is theirs and that they need to bring it back every morning. The magnetic white erase strips have helped display the essential question, standard and learning objective. Lastly, the rainbow scratch papers were a HUGE hit! Thank you so much!”

Social-Emotional Read Alouds
Funded Aug 26, 2018Thank you so much for supporting Social-Emotional Read Alouds. My students have really enjoyed the various stories and characters. One favorite in particular was The Bad Seed by Jory John and Pete Oswald. They were also big fans of I Want My Hat Back and Jabari Jumps. Students can relate to these stories and make connections with them. They felt angry, mad, nervous, scared, and happy before. A Walk With Vanessa is one that they particularly were smitten with because there are no words so they got to be the writers using their minds! Thank you again, I look forward to reading these with my future students in the years to come too!”

Increase English Language Exposure!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for supporting our headphones project! Prior to funding we had headphones that only worked on one side, headphones with frayed wires, and a limited amount of headphones to the point where not all students could use our technology tools because our programs require that students listen in as opposed to out loud! Additionally, this was teaching opportunity for us as a whole, with new items in our classroom we talked about the importance of taking care of items that aren't ours so that we can all benefit and so that future students can benefit from this project.
We are excited to be listening in on new phonics games, read aloud online books, and math applications! Thanks again!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Our bean bags have seen so much love and use in the past few months! We love having the chance to read on MyON, our online reading program, and the bean bags have made it even more special. Students hurry to finish breakfast so that they can cozy up to a new book before we start our day! They truly make our classroom more inviting and even if all the bean bags are occupied students are quick to take a seat beside their friends and rotate.
A BIG thank you to Ripple for funding this project and supporting our classroom!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple.Hens for Friends!
Funded May 20, 2018My students and I share a love for science and this was the perfect project to help continue to foster and support our love for learning! Additionally, the books on chickens really provided my students with the knowledge to support this excitement. After setting up our incubator and placing 6 eggs in warmth, we patiently waited (and checked on our eggs!) until day 20 when we saw our first chick peck through her egg. This was HUGE! We could see the beak moving at first and then, as we had learned from our readings, the chick rested for a few more hours before pecking her way out of the egg completely! We took a class vote and settled on "Rosie". This was such an experience that parents were even eager to see our chicken, which was very moving.
One of my favorite parts of this experience was when Rosie was chirping repeatedly (as chickens do!) and a student said "Ms. S can you tell Rosie to be quiet, she is a little noisy...!" We all started laughing--and continued to love on Rosie until we relocated her to a farm on Long Island where she can continue to grow and be free!
Thanks so much for all your support!!!”

Technology for 21st Century 1st Graders
Funded Feb 26, 2018Thank you SO much for your generous donations! My students are now benefiting from the 6 new tablets and tablet cases that were donated thanks to your support! The tablets have greatly impacted how we go about our day. For example, previously my students would come in and unpack bags eat and hope they would be able to get on one of our three computers. Now I see, and even hear them, talking and moving quickly about their morning routine in the hopes of finishing with enough time to read at their desks on a tablet! Not only are our tablets utilized during our morning arrival time, they are also used during Reading and Math stations to reinforce phonemic awareness and math fluency. We appreciate your support to education and the future of young learners!”

The Sound of Success!
Funded Oct 23, 2017For many of my first grade students technology is not as accessible as it should be. With your donations I was able to purchase headphones for my students so that they can engage with technology in a more individual setting. For example, my students can now use and listen to MyOn, an online library, that allows children to listen and follow along to stories online. Similarly, my English Language Learners can now listen and play sight word games on Imagine Learning by clicking the sight words the hear read to them over the headphones.
The most exciting part about this product is how excited my students are to listen and learn. If they can't hear--they are eager to get the issue fixed as quickly as possible!
We, as well as future students of mine, are so grateful for all of your donations!”

Ms. Hannah
