The students at Westport Middle School are not unlike any other middle school kid in the U.S. They really like candy, cell phones and "One Direction". But the majority of Westport kids can't even pay for lunch, let alone an iPhone. As a Title I school, the needs for the kids are many. But Title I funds aren't provided for any music ensemble. We're lucky to have an INCREDIBLE administration who finds ways to help with new instruments and equipment when they can. But our fundraising efforts seem to dwindle quickly due to the daily maintenance costs of, yep, you guessed it - reeds and percussion implements.
