Having a Dell - 11.6'Chromebook for each of my students in our own classroom will allow my students easy access to research and to the new world of technology. The Albuquerque Public Schools District is slowly introducing Google Chrome to staff and students and encouraging us to use its innovating features instead of the Microsoft programs. We all know the MS programs are expensive and they expire, but having these computers with Internet accessibility students will be allowed to explore and research at ease. We currently have 4 desktop computers in our classroom which limits student's opportunities to research and complete assignments. In the 5th grade we focus a lot in the integration of technology in our instruction; therefore, powerpoint presentations and research papers are a key element in our student's education and summative assessments. My students are currently using Google Slides to work on their American Revolution presentations and are sharing them with me through Google Chrome. They are absolutely fascinated on how we are able to share the documents and I can send them feedback in a message attached to their presentations. Today after my students completed their Stamp standardized assessment in class, the facilitator agreed to lend the Chromebooks to them so that they can work on their presentations quietly while the others finished their assessments. The facilitator and I were truly amazed on how well my students worked and navigated the Chromebooks while working on their presentations and it is then when I realized my students are deserving of their own computer, in their own classroom.
