At this K-8 Title 1 Tuition Free Public Charter, many families CHOOSE to send their children YET the families qualify for free breakfast & lunch services due to their socioeconomic level. Confidentially students receive backpacks of food for the weekend, the only internet access at home is a cell phone hot spot, and at least 10% don't have a stable home to go to OR 30% are back & forth between mom & dad. This uniformed school allows students to not focus on their dress, but simply their success. You've guessed it, even drives have been given to some families for the uniform costs. Currently it's Socktober where students bring in SOCKS for families in the neighborhood! WE ARE IN AMERICA, So it DEFINITELY could be worse. I teach the Civica Academy students to be GRATEFUL while also being RESPONSIBLE for what we do have AND RESOURCEFUL to gain what is needed for success. DonorsChoose is a small way we use our VOICE!
