More Comfort = More Reading!
Funded Oct 5, 2022Students are enjoying and making good use of the chairs. The flexible seating helps in various ways. The chairs are comfortable and give them the opportunity to change positions. This movement helps with transitions by giving them a little energy boost. Additionally, the chairs allow them to rock, a movement that for some can help with focus and/or relaxation.
Because the chairs are easy to move around, students have seating choice, giving them ownership and extending them a level of trust in finding the most productive work environment. They have been very responsible and have self-managed a fair system for sharing the chairs.
Lastly, I love the minimal space they occupy. They fold easily so the students are held accountable for their upkeep and I know I will be able them to provide future students even if my class size increases. Thank you for helping me make this a wonderful learning-enhancement resource!”

Flexible Seating for Movement and Engagement
Funded Dec 9, 2018Thank you so much for the "wiggle" chairs. Despite being careful not to have students sit too long, their young energetic bodies naturally like to be moving. I have found these chairs to help students focus on their task rather day dream or fidget with other items. These chairs have been especially helpful for the students who are more easily distracted. Thank you for helping to design a classroom that can more effectively accommodate all sorts of students.
We have worked on a fair rotation for the chairs so that all students have a chance on the chairs. And, for my part, I find students are better engaged when they need to be.”

Funded Jan 6, 2018Students have been wondering about the science box from the day it arrived. They knew there were owl pellets in the box and the questions started coming: "Do they smell?" "Will we touch them?" "What are they?" Research was born from their own curiosity before the experiment even began.
Students learned what owls eat. They learned that the pellets are not the excrement, but instead what the owl spits back up because it is unable to digest. They collected the bones and spent over an hour trying to put them together. I hear comments like "THIS is the reason I go to school!", to "did you ever think we could have so much fun learning about something gross?". This led to conversations about the ecosystem where their owls live and their diet. We projected how much food they ate and discussed why farmers might want owls living in their area.
Thank you for making this engaging learning experience possible. I only hope all students are so lucky!”

Breathe Life into Teaching Math in Spanish
Funded Oct 3, 2012Thank you so much for the puppets and math supplies! The kids absolutely love the puppets and enjoy speaking in Spanish with them. The three puppets, with different personalities, make learning engaging and powerful. We have a Chef to discuss food, a doctor to discuss our pains, and a cowgirl to talk about all the rest! It's the favorite!
The place value magnets have been instrumental in giving students a visual representation of place value. Not only have they come to better understand place value, but also how to use this knowledge to do double and triple digit adding and subtracting.
What I especially like about these teaching tools is that they will be usable and helpful for years to come. Thank you for difference you are making for these children!”

Funded Dec 10, 2011The Spanish literature has arrived and I have converted the CDs onto MP3s so that we can use them in our listening station. I did a practice run last week and it was a big success! The students began with a book they were familiar with and we will begin to encourage them to sound out the familiar words that they know. Learning to read in Spanish is often easier for them because it is more phonetic than English. This is a first step to building up our Spanish library and the kids are eager to partake. Thank you for your contributions to making this a reality!

Learning Science Through the Butterfly Life Cycle
Funded Oct 11, 2011Just today we came in to find that our caterpillars have transformed into pupas, or chrysalids. I love being able to bring science into the classroom, and the kids love it even more. Thank you for making this possible. This allows us to do art, science and math all while watching a magical transformation!
As we continue to learn about insects, I am confident that what we are specifically learning about the butterfly will be imprinted in their minds for years to come because they were able to witness the metamorphosis for themselves.
Thank you for helping to make learning fun and relevant!

Math Tools and Games
Funded Nov 27, 2011We have already begun using and learning from all of our wonderful math tools - thank you! The magnetic graphical board and the 100s chart are especially popular. The lady bugs have been helpful as a subtraction/addition manipulative and they will help us in all sorts of games. We're busy laminating the apple tree games so that we ensure they last for years to come.
The kids have no lack of enthusiasm for learning and these tools just help make it more fun!
We're lucky to have your support!”

Materials Needed for a New Spanish Immersion School Program
Funded Oct 3, 2011We all just wanted to touch base about the donation of art supplies for my Kindergarten classes and express our gratitude. We enjoyed the glitter, glue, jewels, wiggly eyes, and all the accessories when decorating our wonderful turkey art for the holidays. Glitter in general seems to fascinate the kids and me alike! We're also using the paints every Friday at centers and making them part of our addition number stories. This has encouraged more than a few to do their most creative story problems! The magnetic blocks serve for pattern designs, counting, and just basic building. We also made wonderful altars for Dia De Los Muertos with our flower designs. These little angels are loving it!”

Funded Sep 15, 2010Thank you so much for the Singapore math books that your donation allowed us to receive. Teachers are constantly searching for ways to reach all the different learning styles and abilities that their classrooms have. These books have allowed us to really address the high learner in the classroom in a very targeted way. For some, the promise of receiving their very own book allowing them to work at their own pace, was enough to significantly increase their productivity.
I am a strong advocate of standard algorithms, and our current curriculum does little to teach them. The Singapore books have helped many students to master these skills while still keeping up with their assigned classwork.
Within the school, 2 teachers have seen the impact that these books have had on the students I work with, and they are working with the parents to order sets for their classrooms. Your impact has gone beyond the 80 students I work!
Thank you for your faith in our efforts as teachers. It is inspiring to me to know their are folks out there like you who are willing to help make a difference in how kids learn.”

Make International Learning Fun with Digital Cameras
Funded Feb 11, 2010Thank you so much for your commitment to technology and foreign language. The older students have already begun making videos to show the younger students what they have learned. It has sparked their interest in analyzing what they have learned and putting it into relevant context. We are talking about how to best use our new tool in ways that are educational and fair. So far we have 2 completed videos that will be edited next week.
It's heartening and inspiring to know there are others out there who believe in what we are doing.
Thank you!”
