  • This is the Beginning of the Rest of the Year

    Having all these new materials made a huge difference in my students' lives, learning skills and engagement.

    It was amazing to see how happy they were that they had so many things to use, share and create with. I had a very much easier beginning of the school year since they already had everything they needed. Parents didn't need to donate anything and they were also very grateful for that.

    Art, Science, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies are now more fun, students have a blast creating with the materials and are in love with learning.”

  • STEAMing the Classroom!

    My students have loved to use their new STEAM materials in our Science and Math classes. We have used them for one of our Science lessons, which consists in building houses for birds and checking which material protects from water damage the better. They had a lot of fun doing it and coming up with their answers.

    When they first saw the new Legos, they were in awe and wanted to play with them all the time. Every free time they got as a reward for good work and behavior, they chose to play with them.

    We are using these Legos for our next project, which will be making houses for our butterflies and plants we're currently observing in our Life Science lessons during Springtime.”

  • A World of Possibilities in Books

    My students loved the books they got to read with this project being funded. With these books we could introduce new concepts such as finding characters, plot, problem solving, characteristics, place and time, and so on.

    Reading in my classroom is very quiet. They can choose where to go: carpet, their own chairs, differentiated seating, high chairs on my small groups table, but they have to silently read the books and look for new words - since we're learning Portuguese.

    Some students are very into the new books; they are very excited when it's time to read. They always choose the new books, share what they thought of the stories with me and their peers, and seem to be enjoying learning how to read Portuguese.”

  • Replacing the Old for a Brand New Day

    We are using all of the new resources in Math and Portuguese LA lessons, specially the whiteboards and storage bins. We can write better sentences with the lines and work with more space for math computation. Our classroom is now way more organized, and we can find the materials more easily and faster.

    My students loved the new materials and gasped when they saw them.

    We are still working on organizing the classroom, and since our school is getting a big renovation this summer, we are excited to have all these storage bins and other new materials to store our things.”

  • Go Run And Tell That: American Kids Are Speaking Portuguese!

    The resources you funded us for are being used everyday, and the students got more engaged at the Portuguese classes. There was an event with the teens who study Portuguese at a middle school close to us, where they were the teachers for the day. They used many of the resources, and the classes were so much more interesting.

    The students loved to see that they now had special seats and they want to use it all the time for reading groups. They absolutely share the new seats and are more focused in class, now that they have a reward to look for.

    The next steps for my project are now buying new books and comic books for the Portuguese reading groups. I could really use some help funding them.”

The decorative items will be used on that matter. The manipulative letters will be used to make the students aware of word compositions and for them to create new sentences as they are in the process of learning how to read and speak in Portuguese. The other supplies are for writing and coloring, since we make tons of activities exploring the language, and arts and crafts help a lot on those particular issues. Some students need to focus better on their learning and are sometimes too active; the rubber bands for their chairs are supposed to make them focus on their learning targets and receive more information and, in the middle, more knowledge.
