  • Masterpieces In the Middle School: Bringing Back Picture Books

    Funded Mar 7, 2020

The past 12 hours have been super exciting! I have responded to tons of text messages, emails and Facebook posts regarding my picture book project. Because of you, I will be able to provide my students with books full of words and images that will further their education and fuel their imagination.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martin

  • High-Tech Hygiene

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Students and teachers have been really excited about the lens cleaning wipes and the hand sanitizers that we got from you through Donors Choose! One time after our computer technician serviced and then cleaned a student's iPad, I told the 6th grader that the solution would resist his fingerprints for a couple days. To that he exclaimed, "Wow! This is awesome!" He even forgot to take his book bag with him as he skipped back to class. Our 7th grade Science teacher and her students cleaned Mac books as they prepared for a 6-week STEM course. So fascinated with the wipes, Mrs. C. asked if she could have "a whole box of these. I want to clean the computers once every week!"

Math and Language Arts teachers were surprised when they used wipes and washed away what they realized were microscopic traces of their lunch. (Once a week, they work as they plan and their devices get dirtier than they imagine.) I must admit that I try to keep my hands as clean as possible because I handle books and papers all day long. Truth be told, my screen and keys have been less than pristine. Maybe it's the traces of coffee, dust, ink and everything between. Fortunately, we have wipes to keep our computers clean!

I am so grateful for your generosity, Julia! Because of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from adults and children at my school, our technician has decided to use these wipes during the end-of-the-year iPad collection. How nice and hygienic it will be to have them cleaned before they are put away for the summer! They will be fresh for the fall!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martin

  • Project Projector: Librarian Goes High-Tech When Equipment Hits A Low

    Funded Dec 6, 2017

I am very fortunate to work in a school in which students have 1:1 access to technology. Each student in grades 6 through 8 has his/her own iPad to use in school and to take home to complete assignments. Instruction is carried out via students' personal devices and a classroom Promethean board and projector. When their projector faded, flickering its final spark of light, your generosity kept the fire aflame in an already high energy 6th grade Math class.

It was great to know that learning was not lost in Ms. U.'s classroom. Seeing lessons projected on the big screen and students actively engaged was rewarding! They love to feel in control of their own education--it is literally in the palm of their hands--but having their work displayed for the entire class to see at once is invaluable. Students with attention and vision concerns, as well as those who are simply comforted by knowing that they are not alone when figuring out how to factor fractions or measure mileage, have benefited tremendously from your donation.

We are all aware of the dynamic nature of technology. Today something is trendy; ask about it one year from now, and it may be deemed "old school". One thing that is tried and true is people's love and respect for children and teachers. Imagine how our students felt when they learned that others who do not know them were kind enough to support their education! Your quick response to meet our needs will be remembered for years to come by all who use your gift as well as by those who hear the story of how we received it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Martin

  • Filling Kids’ Bellies to Fuel Their Brains

    Funded Dec 19, 2008

Christmas came a week earlier for my students and me because of you! Thank you very much for funding our proposal for fuel (food). Our days start off (and finish) a lot better when my students focus on their studies, not on their stomachs. As an educator, I constantly strive to create the most (academically, emotionally and physically) comfortable environment for my students. Your generosity will help continue my crusade to feed my 4th graders' bodies as well as their minds.

Thanks again for your concern for us! Happy New Year”

  • 2 for 1: ESL Students Learn Better With Books On CD

    Funded Dec 9, 2008

Thank you so much for funding my 2 for 1 ESL Book/CD proposal! Your gift to my students is doubly exciting because it comes just 2 weeks before our winter vacation. There is already so much joy and happiness in the air. Your donation has definitely contributed to it!

I recently put comfy, retro wicker chairs in the reading center in my classroom. I cannot wait to watch (and share in) the delight that my students will experience because of your generosity. They are 9-and 10-year olds, but they love to feel like "big kids" when they read and are read to”

  • Ending the Word War: ELLs Become Victorious with Vocabulary

    Funded Nov 23, 2008

Thank you so much for your generosity! About a week ago, I began rearranging my classroom to make room for new learning centers. I had yet to get games, magnetic letters and such for the new vocabulary lessons; nevertheless, I was hopeful. I knew that I'd buy the materials soon or I'd get a project funded through DonorsChoose.org. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to discover that you had funded my project!

I will be forever grateful to the founder of this organization and for people like you who have helped me make a difference in children's lives.

    With profound gratitude,

  • A Perfect Fit: Sizing Up International Cinderella Stories

    Funded Jan 4, 2008

I really feel like Cinderella! Just like the prince who found Cinderella and presented her with the glass slipper, this, too, is truly a perfect fit! Thank you for finding me.

I am very excited about the tremendous impact that learning about these beautiful, courageous and determined maidens from around the world will have on my students, boys as well as girls. Your donation will bring an immeasurable amount of creativity and joy to our classroom. You have really made our fairy tale a dream come true”

  • Dynamic Duos: Supporting Super Students With Bilingual Books

    Funded Jan 1, 2008

What a way to start the new year! I am so grateful for your generosity. Thank you so much for your donation to my students. I really wish you could be in my classroom to see their reaction to this good news.

Every time one of my proposals receives funding, I am overjoyed, blown away by the kindness of people who only know about my students and me through a plea in poem form. This time is no exception. Thank you, again, for your decision to give so we could, in turn, receive. In the spirit of multilingualism, thank you, gracias, grazie and tack”

  • A Stately Plea: Help ESL Students Learn the ABC's of the USA

    Funded Dec 10, 2007

Thank you so much for funding "A Stately Plea. . ." I was in shock when I got the e-mail that this proposal had been funded! I usually check my account every day--I believe that I checked it before I left work today--so it was a great surprise when I got home and found that you had read, considered and funded my plea. There are so many wonderful things about the USA. I am always so excited to teach my fourth graders about this great country. Can you imagine how much more enthusiastic I will be because of your generosity? Thanks again”

  • Making Friends Via Pens: 1st and 4th Grade Pen Pals

    Funded Oct 26, 2007

Dank uw vel! Gracias! Grazie! Tack!

Thank you so much for funding our proposal. Your contribution will make a world of difference. My students and I anxiously await our books on friendship. We have worked hard to build a community of trust, respect and fellowship in our classroom. These books and the discussions that we will have about them will serve to reinforce the importance of fostering healthy, genuine relationships with others.

On a more personal note, I am very touched by your contribution. This act of kindness and generosity reinforces what I believe and what I constantly tell my students--even though we hear about or experience bad things in life, there are many people out there, ones who do not know us, who care about us.

Many thanks again for your support”
