  • S.T.E.A.M. Learning in Elementary

    Funded Mar 26, 2019

I am so amazed at your love, passion and generosity that have towards education and my students. You are allowing me to reach students that would never have been reached with technology. That reach is something that has touched their emotional state towards education and provided an edge that someone does care. I explained the DonorsChoose program and the looks on their faces of someone giving to them and not knowing them was heartwarming.

As you can see in the pictures, the fact that they can use iPads on their own without having to share caused them to earn points necessary to use the iPad. It also brought about an incentive to look forward to coming to school...to me that is everything!!! Math and Science can overlap in many ways and I allow that to happen because they do; couple with technology and it means nothing to them but bring it on.

The students that the iPads have impacted the most are students that have challenges with discipline. Yet, your contribution has afforded me the opportunity to not only discipline their behavior, but discipline their minds that technology is an asset and it does help to increase student achievement. Thank you, thank you, thank and I appreciate all that you do bring technology into the world of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

  • STEM Learning

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

We all know that math and science goin hand-in-hand and the way that it is taught in the schools infers this. The ability to incorporate technology to solidify how these content areas relate can be mindblowing. Having taught for over twenty-nine years and seeing the changes that have taken place I am so blessed and honored that you as a donor have graced the lives of my students. Technology helps students to learn because not only is it fun, engaging, different, but it also is delving into their minds and they truly do not realize this. It is a win-win situation for my students.

As students win with the iPad and it's incorporation into the instructional delivery, it gives my students something to look forward to. I have even had students to research for different types of apps that can be used in the classroom with the iPads to help them learn. What was really amazing was the fact that the students got together to create a usage checkout list for the classroom to give all students an opportunity to use the iPads. For that alone, I say THANK YOU for the donation to my students.

Are there particular students who have especially warmed to this new technology I would say my students in the lowest 25 percent quartile. These students normally feel that they don't have the capacity to learn, have been labeled and/or teased, the iPads have allowed them express what's deep inside of them and their scores have slowly increased. Is it possible to bring a smile on their faces, I thought not; but I was mistaken. Thee iPads are a smile maker, knowledge brewer and electronics board for learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

  • Snacks for Hunger Busters!

    Funded Feb 11, 2019

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful snacks. I am so grateful for all of the yummy snacks you helped me give my students. I can't say thank you enough. It has helped my lovely students become more focused on learning and they can't wait to come to tutoring.

We have so many snacks to last us a long time. My students even ask to take some of the snacks home with them. I am so happy that they are asking because I don't want them to go home hungry. This has helped them go home and complete their extra assignments afterwards. Thank you again for being so generous towards my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

  • To Proficiency and Beyond

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

I truly believe in giving my students the opportunity to make the best of what they have with resources that will help them excel. Technology is a component of the educational playing field that allows them to become confident and competent in school. I know that the use of the Seven Multiple Intelligences helps you create instruction at the need of the student. My inception of iPads in the classroom has created students that understand and appreciate technology. They also understand that there were individuals in society and the community that will give (even not knowing them) to make the lives of others better.

In appreciating technology, these iPads helped to increase fluency skills, transitional skills, typing speed and note taking. The ability to implement these factors into their daily lives, will help them to help others. Just as you took the time to help fund this project, I in turn am explaining to them while they use these iPads to look forward to becoming productive members of society. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to believe again; there have been many changes in education over my twenty-nine years of teaching and DonorsChoose is phenomenal.

The ability to provide usage to students in the lowest 25 quartile has helped to increase scores on topic assessment tests; if you could see the smiles on their faces when receiving their scores...priceless. Not only that, but these students have increased their chance to make a learning gain of one year because the technology usage makes learning more engaging, interactive . The challenge with that is to keep up the pace to experience what education has to offer, and your donations did that. Thank you, thank you and thank you again for going above and beyond to help fund, "To Proficiency and Beyond".”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

We are a school in an urban area. Many of our students don't have the basic necessities to come to school or the means to purchase necessary supplies. At our school, we often give out vouchers for free school uniforms because parents cannot afford to purchase uniforms. We have given out book bags filled with supplies to the majority of our students so that they can have their basic classroom needs met. Other students may start with materials but lose track of them due to many housing moves throughout the year. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with a meaningful learning experience.
