  • Fostering a Love for Reading Through Adventure and Mystery

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support in helping us foster a love for reading through adventure and mystery! The books you helped provide—Goosebumps, Bad Guys, Magic Tree House, CatKid, Minecraft, and A-Z Mysteries—have been a huge hit, especially with the boys. We've seen an exciting shift in their reading habits. Many of them, who once hesitated to pick up a book, are now eagerly diving into stories filled with action, suspense, and imagination. These titles have created a buzz, and it's not uncommon to see boys swapping books, recommending favorites, and even rereading their favorite parts aloud to friends.

Having access to genres that truly speak to their interests—like mystery, history, and fast-paced adventure—has sparked a new enthusiasm for reading that we hadn't seen before. They're not just reading because they have to—they're reading because they want to. Your donation has helped turn reading into something exciting and personal for them. Thank you for being a part of that transformation!”

  • Verse for Every Voice: Building a Classroom Library of Poetry

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to my poetry classroom project. Thanks to your support, my students now have access to a rich, diverse collection of poetry books that will ignite their creativity, foster empathy, and enhance their critical thinking. Your contribution is making a profound difference in their educational journey. Reading these books helped them find their own identify as as poets. In addition, these poetry books inspired our class to host our very first "Poetry Festival: in which all students wrote their own identity poems. It was quite a success thanks to your donation!

With these new books, my students have improved their reading comprehension, and gained the confidence to explore their own voices through writing. Introducing them to various poets, styles, and themes will help them connect with poetry in meaningful, personal ways, encouraging self-expression and a lifelong love for literature. Many of my students now love to visit our poetry library bin. It's not filled with poetry books that are relatable to them as minorities.

Thank you again for your incredible support. Your kindness is truly making a difference in my students' lives, and I am deeply grateful for your commitment to fostering their literacy and love of poetry.”

  • A Library for All!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

The new books have filled my readers with joy! My students are learning about many literary elements. The books give them an opportunity to read independently and apply these skills. Many students are fond of the Feelings/Emotions books and many of mini-series included. These books are very popular with my 4th graders. They are learning about characters with similar issues and learning how to cope with adversities. When students identify with characters they connect themselves more to the book, and uproot engagement.

Our class library section of leveled books for my students used to be only 2 bins, and now my students have 18 bins full of characters, plots, and settings that have sparked their imagination! Many students get cozy in our classroom library while laying on the carpet or sitting a cozy chair. Students read a minimum of 1 hour each day. My students also write book reviews and recommendations. It's truly become a 21st century classroom library that all kids deserve. We thank you for contributing to life-long learners that will forever remember the hundreds of books we received from donors like you!”

  • Digitize Distance Learning With an iPad Please!

    Funded May 26, 2020

Thank you so much for the Ipad! This has been a huge transformation! Having an Ipad has made the virtual teaching experience a lot easier to manage as teacher. The experience for students has enhanced 100%. For example, I use my Ipad as a digital whiteboard and I am able to write and model equations. The Ipad gives students the feel of being back in the classroom because it's my actual writing on a digital board. Students also love going on virtual field trips. We are able navigate through variety of museums and countries.

Students are really excited about getting instant feedback because I am able to write directly on their class work. I can instantly comment on essays, annotate digital files, and I can write directly in digital workbooks. Students are excited to get back in the classroom and try the Ipad themselves to teach their peers.

The Ipad has really helped my special education students because they need lots of visuals and instant feedback. The Ipad allows me to give them small group instruction and personalize it for them. It's truly transformed virtual learning for positive experience that all students deserve.”

  • Bringing History to Life

    Funded Mar 7, 2020

The moment I received all of the boxes of books I immediately opened them all and displayed them. My students were beyond thrilled! They could not believe that someone actually donated brand new books to our class library. In our class library I have very few outdated books about the American Revolution, the Westward Expansion, and the Civil Rights movement. This donation gave my students new books to hold in their hands and learn about real world events that took place in our country. We used these books for our Writer's workshop unit titled: Bringing History to Life. Students did research and applied what they learned to reflect on different points of view.

Reading in my class means students can now lay in a cozy corner and not have to wait to share a book. It is now in their hands, they can take home and read, they can put stick it notes and reflect.

Many of my female students told me that they find History books boring and had asked if they could just research videos on Youtube. After seeing our new book selection they were absolutely thrilled to read first hand accounts of the Oregon Trails and follow the routes on the maps included. The Boston Tea Party was especially an enjoyable read when they saw different types of books like comic books, novels, and first hand accounts. The were truly immersed and asked if they could do a presentation after their essay. Well written children's books have truly turned my students into historians.”

  • Wanted: Lifelong Learner

    Funded Oct 17, 2019

Thank you so much for contributing to my Macbook Air. It has made an incredible impact with myself and with my students. I started using it to communicate with students and parents. I took online classes to learn how make a website that can better serve my students and parents. Students are now able to communicate and access online curriculum. It's amazing that a 4th grade class now has access to real-time curriculum and students are now able to turn in assignments online. My Macbook Air has allowed me to to give my students a college experience by giving them access to 21st century technology.

With my MacBook Air I have taken a wide variety professional development classes that have allowed me to integrate technology in the classroom. I have created a digital environment in my current class and this will now benefit my future students. I was also able to create a "state of the art" class website. Parents and students now communicate with me and also watch videos for homework help.

Thank you for helping me be able to participate webinars, and have access to educational apps. My end goal is to build my knowledge and use of technology as an integral part of my instruction so that I can provide a diverse learning environment that is fundamental to all my students' various learning needs and the development of 21st century skills. THANK YOU for giving me that opportunity!”

  • Let's Get the School Year Rolling!

    Funded Dec 9, 2018

We are so grateful to finally have a brand new printer with lots of ink for students to use. My students frequently type stories and they now have an opportunity to see a printed version of their work. With this printer, my students are super excited about having their writing "published" for others to see. Having this technology has helped our students' feel good about themselves. They know and understand that ink is expensive, so they carefully draft their best stories to print. Once they are ready to print, they rush to the printer to get their fresh copy to post on our writing board. That proud smile is unforgettable!

Along with the printer, we received stick it notes, highlighters, pencils, pens, and a sharpener. Our Writing Stations finally have materials that real writers use. Thank you!”
