  • School Garden Project

    Funded Jun 11, 2021

    I wanted to thank you for providing the various resources that helped our garden grow during the fall! While we were not able to participate in classes inside the garden, we were able to utilize the garden for the cooking club that was hosted by some other staff members. They were able to utilize some of the eggplants, lettuces, greens, peppers, tomatoes and more during the cooking club. Additionally, some students and families were able to take advantage of the garden by picking out items that they could use at home. While the garden will primarily begin it's utilization within Health & PE classes during the latter part of the year we will begin learning about the skill and topic of gardening during health class. While we are learning about gardening we will also provide a gardening club which will help with democratizing the garden space.

    This is a huge project which will take years but with the resources you provided we can turn a once barren space into a living memorial to the idea of community and democracy. Thank you!”

  • Bring Badminton to Our School

    Funded Jun 2, 2021

    I wanted to thank you for being so generous during these trying times. I was able to successfully begin an introductory unit of badminton for 7th grade but our time was shortened due to an outbreak of COVID-19 which caused us to quarantine. The students demonstrated pure joy and curiosity in a unique sport that many have never been exposed to during their lifetime. Thanks to you, they were able to learn the basic skills associated with badminton before the quarter came to an end.

    Thank you again for providing this unique opportunity for an under-resourced school! This will provide unique learning opportunities for many children over the coming years.

    I look forward to beginning a badminton unit with the next class when we return from winter break.”

I decided on this wide array of equipment and materials to allow me to teach developmentally appropriate Health & Physical Education classes that promote Social Emotional Learning, improve physical & mental health, and improve the school community. I envision providing a plethora of opportunities that did no exist previously. As our school is in the process of a rebuild, we are trying to serve our students and community to the best of our ability. Our students come from a community that experiences poverty and trauma at high rates. Many of our students face many challenges on a daily basis. Please help me provide my students with the best learning experience possible. Our students deserve so much more than the current hand they were dealt.

About my class
