  • Breakfast Club: Healthy Beginnings for Healthy Learners!

    Funded Jul 30, 2017

We were very lucky to have this grant funded. It helped out 3 classrooms. We had so many snacks for the year. This helped get our school year off to a great start. Many students were hungry in the morning if they get to school late and they don't have breakfast. Their lunch time is not until 11:30, so they will need to eat something, even if it's little. This healthy food grant helped many students to have a snack when they didn't bring one from home. Believe it or not, our classroom has actually gone through most of the snacks this grant provided. It has been nice to not purchase snacks out of my own pocket for a change. I may write another small one for just our classroom. Thank you again for all of your support and efforts with this grant. It helped many of our students here at our Charter School.”

  • 10 Prize-Winning TOON Graphics for Middle Grades

    Funded Jul 26, 2017

Thank you so much for the graphic novels. Already, many of my students that are reluctant readers have taking a liking to the graphic novels in our classroom. They are excited to borrow the books and bring them back only to check out a new one. They enjoy reading "Comic style." It is very entertaining to them. We are forever in your gratitude for these amazing books. Our classroom did not have any graphic novels and they are now our most popular books. My students can't stop reading them. They generally have to check them out because there is not always enough time during the day to day class time to read one in its' entirety. On behalf of all of my students, thank you ever so much.”

  • Just Keep Swimming: Oceanography in Gifted

    Funded Mar 6, 2016

    Dear Donors,

The Oceanography carpet is a great addition to our classroom. We did not have a gathering area carpet to read and do activities on in our school. We are very fortunate to have donors like you who care about our Gifted program. As we continue to grow, we will need things for our Gifted center. Upon being hired here between both schools, I have had to write many grants like this donors choose grant to get basic supplies and things to challenge and stimulate my Gifted learners. I want everything that can be available to my students as they deserve it.

With this new carpet, my students have a gathering area and a place they can feel safe. Our school's mascot is the Dolphin and the school has an Ocean type of theme. I love the Ocean as well so my classroom is decorated in that type of theme. Even though we will be studying a different thematic unit next year, we love the Ocean rug and we will be careful not to mess it up.

The Magic School bus read-aloud were also very much appreciated. We did a book study on the book and my Gifted students created dodecahedron(our Math polyhedra shape we have been studying) with 12 topics on each side. One of the sides, was the Magic School Bus summary. They really enjoying going on a reading adventure on Thier new gathering area rug.

On behalf of my students, thank you so much for your generosity. We are very blessed to have these learning tools for our success!”

  • Think Smart: Challenging Games for the Gifted!

    Funded Dec 31, 2015

Thank you very much for funding this project. My Gifted students were so excited today to unpack Thier new Math Strategy games. We started using the games right away! These games will challenge and motivate them during Gifted Math time. You should have seen thier excitement today. We will be doing a unit on Chess to teach them strategies that they can use to calculate the opponent's next move. These thinking and Math strategy game are excellent hands-on skills that they can learn in our Gifted program. In addition, the students will get a social aspect during playing these games that they really need. On behalf of all of my Gifted students, thank you so very much for making this project possible.”

  • I Am Not Just Gifted! Portfolios for Our Gifted Program

    Funded Dec 2, 2015

Thank you so much for the portfolios! Our old ones were falling apart. Having just got the job here, I have had to do so many grants just to get basic Gifted supplies. The new 3 inch portfolios are larger which allow a lot more work to be put in and organized per each Gifted standard. Our Gifted students are so happy and appreciative of all these new materials they can use every week when they attend Thier Gifted class. The portfolios organize the student's Gifted work under each Gifted standard. The students will share thier work at our annual, "Student-Led Conference" Night in May where they will choose one piece of work to share with thier parents out of thier new portfolios. We are so blessed to have people like you that care about our Gifted Center. On behalf of all of Gifted students, thank you so much.”

  • What? No Whiteboard? Materials For Our Gifted Program

    Funded Dec 3, 2015

My students were so excited to actually have a whiteboard at one of our schools where the Gifted program is located in a portion of the Science Lab. My younger students actually put the entire whiteboard together. It was a Gifted hands-on project and they absolutely loved it. I supervised the project but they used the instructions and tools that it came with to completely assemble it themselves. They felt so accomplished when they were done! I took pictures of them assembling it and uploaded them as you can see. The other materials that were purchased with this project were also very helpful in the Gifted program. The new hole puncher can punch so many papers(20 at a time) so it cuts time in half by allowing me to do all four of my Gifted classes for the week in less than a minute! It is the best hole puncher I have ever had. The tote is very helpful to keep my curriculum and supplies for each school organized when I travel there. We are in such a small space that the tote helps so much with my organization. Before, I had to stuff all of my books, copies, and curriculum, supplies into one small laptop bag. Now, it is all together in one tote! The reward incentives; pencils, eraser pencil toppers, and scented stickers are amazing. The kids are working harder in Gifted class to obtain one of the incentives. We are so very appreciative for all of your contributions to our Gifted program. On behalf of all of my students in the Gifted program between two schools- Thank you!”

  • Printing the Way to Gifted Success!

    Funded Dec 2, 2015

This project really helped our Gifted Center. The Paper and ink helped us to make copies(and continue to make) more copies and print items we need out in our classroom. The paper helped so much because at one of our school we have to provide the copy paper for our handouts. Everything in the Gifted program is curriculum out of books so we do not have workbooks like the general education classroom does. We have to make copies of all the Gifted curriculum. We recently have started our research projects weekly and the 8GB flash drives are very beneficial to the Gifted students as they can save all of Thier work on thier computers directly to thier flash drives. They are creating an electronic portfolio to aid them in 21st century computer learning. They are creating Power Point projects based on thier research and saving the power points to thier flash drives. My students really enjoyed learning how to use the flash drives and save the information to the drives. On behalf of my students, thank you so much for your generosity. We are blessed to have donors like you to support our Gifted program and give us the resources we truly need.”

  • Help! My Gifted Work Keeps Falling Out! We need Binders!

    Funded Oct 26, 2014

Thank you ever so much for donating to this project. We had old binders that were small. The clips didn't work because they were broken and the kids' work was constantly falling out of the binders. Now, they have larger binders, we are able to fit more Gifted work in them. They are able to organize their binders according to our 7 Gifted standards more effectively. No longer will it take a lot of time out from the day to "fix" their binders. The binders are going to be used in our student-led conferences to be a portfolio assessment based on the standards they have learned in the Gifted program. These were a necessity to our Gifted department. Thank you so much for your continuous support and generosity!”

  • Three Cheers for Gifted students! We Need Supplies!

    Funded Sep 20, 2014

My students absolutely loved their materials for Gifted class. They love the extreme dot to dot book. They are excited to do the challenging work many of these books have provided. They love the 6 foot knight and decorations to make our classroom look like the Ancient civilizations we are studying this year. During our annual student-led conference night on May 20th, the parents will get to view their loaded portfolios. This project boosted my teaching and students' learning by allowing them to be challenged in their Gifted as well as excited about the atmosphere. Thank you again for your generosity. Onward and Upward!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Perez

  • I-What?We are in need of Technology for Gifted & Talented!

    Funded Aug 1, 2014

Our students were given the 8 GB Flash drives for their Gifted projects that we do in class. We can store a lot of data on those drives. They use them to create power points, word documents, and more. We can even store our pictures from projects of things we do in class such as videos on the flash drives.

One of the main reasons we asked for these flash drives is that the students would loose their drives or not have the resources to purchase the drives. They are on our Gifted supply list. We had a bag of "Donor drives" that many of our students would use and it took so much time to pick their drive out because many of the drives looked the same.

With our new flash drives, our students are able to keep them at Gifted class in their portfolios and always have them on hand to save their work. It has saved time because everyone has a drive and they have their flash drive here at school. Thank you very much on behalf of our Gifted center for your generosity!”

My students come our charter school in Florida which is in a low socioeconomic area. They are highly capable learners that need some motivational activities to help challenge them. Our charter school is a wonderful school with a great school community. Our students and families expect to be involved with materials, resources and hands-on projects. With the demand for rigorous instruction, we will need all of the literacy and resources available in order to challenge their bright minds and create a love of learning.
