Flexible Seating in the Art Room
Funded Aug 23, 2024I can't thank you enough for all the kindness you have shown my class. Our number of students per class has gone up and my tables have gotten a little crowded. With this, behavior has been more of a challenge and some students need some extra space to do their work. They have been loving these tables and cushions for that reason.
I thought for sure my younger students were going to be the ones who loved them but as it turns out, all my students (TK-6th) want to use them. They thought at first it was a punishment to be moved but once they realized I turned the flexible seating into a positive, they ask to sit there every class. :)
Thank you again for helping to mix up the seating dynamic in my class. It has brought some more excitement in for students who struggle.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Teresa Thain”

Exposing Graphic Design and Multimedia Art to Students
Funded Sep 15, 2014I just wanted to take the time to thank you so much for funding my project, Exposing Graphic Design and Multimedia Art to Students. My students were so excited and shocked to have received the Apple Computer and color printer. Some said they had never seen a computer like this before. All of them could not wait to use it. They asked me every day when they were going to be able to create art on it and what projects we were going to do.
I have so many goals and ideas for the students to accomplish on the computer and cannot wait to tackle them! Because the students had never done graphic designing or digital art before, we started with some basic photo editing of themselves. After that was printed, they collaged it with words and pictures they drew. They used Microsoft Word to help look at fonts and pictures for inspiration. We also used a drawing program to create an abstract piece of art. Students had to use at least 4 different shapes and 2 different lines within the same piece. They also had to add text and/or patterns inside the shapes. Another project we did was explore Adobe Illustrator. Partners Googled an imaged they wanted to do their project with and then inserted that into Illustrator. They then were required to change the effect on the photo 3 different ways. Our next project this year will be to actually draw or paint something in Illustrator.
This project has definitely pushed me to learn new things. I am not a graphic designer but I know how important technology is to the 21st Century. Some students are intimated with painting and drawing but are drawn to the idea of creating art on the computer. I want to engage those students so that means I myself need to move out of my own comfort zone explore another dimension of art.”
With gratitude,
