  • Earth Day

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project! The floor seats in blue and green have added a fun, comfy, colorful seating option for my students when working around the room independently or with a partner. My kids have loved creating art with the dot markers! The plastic trays have been so versatile- creating a workspace for messy work, distributing science materials to table groups, and more. The Earth Day books have been super inspirational to our nature loving kids. I have enjoyed reading the books and improved my teaching practices.”

  • STEM with a Math Focus

    Funded May 10, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom STEM math project! My kids love all these materials, find them engaging, and love math time! My students have become much more proficient comparing fractions by playing fraction war with a classmate. Do you love pizza? My students do! They especially love playing pizza fractions and practicing what they've learned about equivalent fractions. There's a variety of different levels and games students can play all with this one game! Finally, the magnatiles have been a huge hit! They are fun, calming, and open ended. Students have made buildings, cars, vacuum cleaners and more!”

  • Back to School 2023

    Funded Aug 14, 2023

Thank you so much for generously funding all of these back to school classroom supplies! I was able to create numerous anchor charts for each subject and hang them around the room for easy reference. Students frequently referred to the pictured writing anchor charts during our writing lessons, when students were working in partnerships, and during independent writing.

My students loved their nametags! Many of the 2nd graders were excited to try out cursive because they also had access to their own 3rd grade nametag. The variety of references on the two nametags were so helpful to my wide range of learners.

Our classroom was super organized and accessible to students with the help of the labels. Finally, the mailbox helped keep our many worksheets, tests, rubrics, and packets well-organized.

Thanks a million for helping our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Payette

  • Math and Reading Everywhere

    Funded Sep 2, 2023

Thank you all so much for funding our classroom project! Late this spring, my students put on a Reader's Theater performance using the scripts provided in this project. The students thought it was so fun and enjoyed having their own part. They were delighted to perform for their classmates and even the younger students from our neighboring classes! Students loved this genre and I think it sparked inspiration for many to try out for our schoolwide play once they are old enough to join in 4th and 5th grade!

My students benefited greatly from the math and reading posters. The R.A.C.E. poster hung at the front of my room this year and students frequently referred to it when answering comprehension questions. This helped students to have more thorough responses that restated the question, answered it, cited specific evidence from the text, and explained in their own words what the significance was. The kids learned so much about telling time to the minute and using vocabulary such as "quarter til" with the telling time bulletin board set. The giraffe growth chart was a big hit! I hung it in the hallway and often saw my students measuring their height on the way to and from the library. I also saw many students from our Pre - K through 5th grade school measuring themselves - I love all the math talk I heard from them!”

  • Odds and Ends

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Thank you very much for funding our classroom project! The colorful Sharpie sets were tremendously helpful for many purposes! Each table group had their own set of Sharpies that students used when signing our class rules poster, decorating their DCS money bags for shopping at 4th/5th grade marketplace, and making a variety of colorful signs. Students routinely used the Sharpies during our art projects, as seen in the pictures of the fall leaves and cherry blossoms art.

The rotating caddies were placed in our shared space and shared amongst 3 classes. Students were able to easily access a variety of materials when working individually, in small groups, in parent led activities, and more!

My students loved the liquid sensory viewers and they were a calm, quiet way for students to soothe themselves in our calm down corner or around the room if they were feeling stressed or upset.”

  • Small Group Stools

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

Thank you so much for funding our class project for stools and a bookshelf. After unpacking and assembling the new stools, my students came in one morning to discover them and excitedly asked, "Where did you get these from, Mrs. Payette?" "I love the purple colors," and, "Can we use these?". These stools were a fantastic addition to our horseshoe table area of the class and were used daily as students came to work 1 on 1 and in small groups. These stools were also invaluable because of their lightweight and ability to move around the room. Many times we had students from the older and younger class as well as little siblings in our room and kids were able to easily carry the stools around the room to new places and all the kids fit (ages 3 to adults!).

We also appreciate the extra bookshelf to store our many chapter books, graphic novels, and non-fiction texts. Here are some pictures of students with some of their favorite books, which they shopped for from the white bookshelves.”

  • PNW Salmon Books

    Funded May 9, 2023

These books have been such a big hit in my classroom! Thank you so very much for all of your generosity and funding my class project! When I put these books out on our display wooden bookshelves, students immediately grabbed them and started reading. Students came up to me and showed pictures of the salmon growing up through each life cycle stage and shared many fascinating facts. These books were invaluable during our informational writing unit on animals.

This year I ended up moving to a 2nd and 3rd grade split class. My 3rd graders excitedly shared how last year they went on a field trip to the salmon hatchery and found many text to self connections between the books and their trip. My class goes on different field trips every other year since we are a split, and I'm excited for them to go back to the hatchery again next year. I am looking forward to using these books again next year for read alouds before our hatchery field trip and having students read the books independently as well.

    Thanks again!!”

  • STEM Materials

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

Thanks you so much for all of these amazing materials. During math, when students finish their work early and are waiting for other students and groups to finish, I have my kids grab a learning wrap up and practice their math facts independently. Students love that they are able to keep working on math while they wait. They also love the challenge of working on the facts they need most. Ex: some work on +7, +8, and +9, others need to start lower at +4 facts, many have graduated to subtraction, and some even work on multiplication, division, and equivalent fractions.

I've been able to incorporate art with many of our science and math units. We've been learning about geometry and students used construction paper to make geometry monsters with different polygons, angles, regular vs. irregular shapes and more! We took a field trip to the UW cherry blossoms, learned about plant needs in science, and a biography of the woman who got cherry blossoms in D.C., before making our own beautiful cherry blossom art. We even used the model magic to make diyas for Diwali with the K/1 class next to our room.

I'm looking forward to using the other supplies soon when I reach telling time and money to my students this spring. Thanks again!”

  • New Classroom, New Decor

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations towards my classroom project! My students love the vibrant, bright colors in our class. The Better Than Paper was sooo much better than working with bulletin board paper that crumples, tears, and is difficult to hang. This special paper was easy to work with, measure to fit exact wall dimensions, and is high-quality. The colors provide a nice pop behind our reading, writing, science, and social studies posters. The analog clock is perfect for my 2nd and 3rd graders to learn to tell time. Thanks again!!”

  • Diverse Children Reading Rug

    Funded Jul 14, 2023

Thank you all for your generosity and kindness towards our classroom! This rug is so perfect and completes our reading corner. The students absolutely love coming over to this part of the room to grab a book off our wooden display bookshelves.

This is such a cozy spot for groups and partners to work together on a variety of activities. Partners come over to this rug to read a book together, work on a Scholastic News article, sort author's purpose task cards, and more. My students also love playing math board games in groups and this is an awesome, private, and quiet spot to work together.

Our class also received some new calming tools like stress balls, liquid viewers, etc. and students are really good about going to this area of the room to calm down or de-stress. All the cute kid characters and character traits with handprints make this rug all the more special. Thanks again!!”
