  • Bringing Science And Technology To Our Class

    Funded Feb 22, 2015

I want to thank Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and my husband, Rob D'Alessandro for fulfilling this project. Having an iPad 2 to work on with my Master's Program, so that I will be a better teacher, has made a huge impact in my classroom. Already I am learning so much about teaching students with English as their second language and applying this knowledge in my classroom.

Having this iPad to do professional development and to take videos to use in my Master's Program at the University of Wilmington in North Carolina, has been so helpful. Actually, I could not have taken some of the classes without having an iPad to use with the online components.

My students have all shown huge growth and I could see the confidence in their little faces as they realized how much they were learning. Education never stops, it is ongoing and I thank my husband, Rob and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DAlessandro

  • Quill to the Rescue!

    Funded Jan 19, 2015

Thank you so much for funding this project of much needed supplies. We love Quill.com in our classroom and FY15! Knowing that you have helped us with our basic supply needs will fill my students' hearts with joy!

We can begin printing out our final drafts on research. You can rest assured this will be the best "school" present they will receive.

Schools and teachers cannot do their job properly without the help and support from companies such as yourself. Your fine quality and great customer service only makes this project better. Thank you so much for caring about students in North Carolina.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DAlessandro

  • Growing Kinders Dream With Gail Gibson Books

    Funded Dec 3, 2014

Thank you so much for funding our Gail Gibson books project. My students were overjoyed to have these books to use every day in our classroom. Bringing exciting, non-fiction books into our studies has made ordinary classwork come alive.

We used our books recently when we were studying Polar Bears. My students had the books they needed to learn about Polar Bears and their habits. They were able to write more about the Polar Bear than they would have without the books. Next week we will use the books for our study on Penguins! I am excited and look forward to using the Honey Bee books to teach my Kinders why bees are so important to our environment and to us!

Thank you so much for supplying our classroom with these resources. We could not have had the wonderful learning year we had without donors such as yourself.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DAlessandro

  • Scholastic News Let's Find Out Magazines!

    Funded Oct 21, 2014

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The Scholastic News, Let's Find Out Magazines have already meant so much to my students. These are treasured magazines in our room, and the best part is that each child has one to keep and share at home!

Scholastic News, Let's Find Out Magazines will make a huge impact on my Kindergarten students as they are experiencing even fewer resources than ever before. The colorful and well written magazine fits in with our curriculum and gives students another perspective of standards that we are teaching now. Thank you for taking the time to give my students this gift!

Without donors like you, so many classrooms would be doing without the extra resources that make an exciting difference in a classroom! Thank you!”

  • Dramatic Arts Retelling Center For Kinders

    Funded Oct 21, 2014

Thank you so much for funding our Dramatic Arts Retelling Center project. My students were overjoyed to have these costumes and supplies to use every day in our classroom. Bringing these retelling resources into our studies has made ordinary classwork come alive.

We use these costumes and supplies in our retelling centers. It is hard for Kindergarten students, especially ones that are just learning the English language, to retell what they have just read. With the costumes you supplied my Kinders are able to dress up and pretend they are the characters in the stories. This helped so much with their comprehension.

Thank you so much for supplying our classroom with these resources. We could not have had the wonderful learning year we are having without donors such as you.”

    With gratitude,

  • Bringing The Outdoors Indoors!

    Funded Oct 4, 2014

Thank you so much for funding our Bringing Outdoors Indoors project. We are so happy to have spring around the corner and our garden ready to be planted.

Our class is so thrilled to have the tree trunk stools to sit on daily. My students love having 'trees' indoors and tell their parents how they can count how any years the trees were growing by counting the grow lines. We have our garden planned and hope to be planting the day after we come back from spring break.

We are working hard on identifying plants and deciding which plants will grow best in our Earth Boxes. Our parents have decided they will help us and will supply the seeds for our spring planting.

Thank you so much for supplying our classroom with these resources. We could not have these experiences if were not for companies such as yourself, caring about classrooms in North Carolina.”

  • Time For Kids Means Time For Learning!

    Funded Jul 23, 2014

Thank you so much for giving to my classroom project. I am so grateful to donors such as yourself who give so generously to help students learn and grow!

My students are thrilled with their Time for Kids magazines. They love these magazines because the information is interesting and current. We read the magazine together, while they are sitting on the carpet looking as I project the online version. The online version has a read aloud feature, vocabulary and definition option, and also includes videos. My students love this so much! Then we go to our seats and read the magazine again and complete any student interactive work. To make this even more fun, my students get to take their own copy home and share with their parents. Half of my class of 24 students are Latino, English Language Learners. Most of their parents do not speak English very well. These magazines are read by my students with their parents. The parents are as interested as the students!

I am so happy that my students and their parents are enjoying these magazines and I am so grateful that donors such as Glassco Smith and Jennifer Chiappetta care about students in North Carolina. Thank you so much for helping my class!”

    Mrs. DAlessandro

  • Hands-On Learning Is Play-Doh Fun!

    Funded Aug 22, 2014

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in funding my Play-Doh fun project! This has truly been such a meaningful gift for my class. And we all thank you every day for our Play-Doh.

We were learning how to write our names when the Play-Doh came in. I gave my students name tags and then cut apart their names on sentence strips. As you can see from the pictures they had to build their names using the Play-Doh after putting them together using the sentence strip pieces. They loved it. I can't tell you how many times we did this simple but effective activity. All of my students could write their names after this!

We also use the Play-Doh in math. With all the colors included, we used this Play-Doh for learning our color words. I made color word mats and they would pick the Play Doh color that matched the mat. They would then build the color word using Play-Doh! All students can write their color words now after doing this activity almost every afternoon.

Now we are using Play-Doh to make sight words. What fun this is for my class! They do not even realize they are learning. Thank you for making this possible.”

    Mrs. DAlessandro

  • Dramatic Arts Retelling Center For Kinders

    Funded Feb 27, 2014

Thank you so much for funding our classroom project for a retelling center. My students have been learning to comprehend text that they are reading in class and with their Buddy Classroom in 4th grade. They have used the props and books included in this proposal to become better readers.

To act out a story is a fun way of retelling the story. As students are thinking of ways to retell the story they are comprehending what they have read. This would not have been possible without support from companies such as yourself.

Thank you so much for caring about a classroom in North Carolina.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DAlessandro

I am a First grade teacher at a Title I school. We are located in a beautiful, small community near the sea. We serve mostly rural families. Our school is very active and we strive to continuously learn! My students this year are very diverse. I have an ESL cluster group along with my high achieving students. We have experienced major budget cuts in NC and we do not have money for extras such as hands-on activities that help teach science and math and enhance learning for all. My goal is to have my students learn what is mandated by my county and then to go beyond this curriculum and foster curiosity about the world around them. I feel that knowing about the environment and nature will help them know themselves and become confident adults, able to compete globally in any field they choose.
