Help my Students See Our Zoom Lessons Better
Funded Nov 17, 2020I want to thank you for your generosity to our students. It will help them have a clearer view of the zoom sessions they have to be in on a daily basis. It means a lot to them. They appreciate it so much, especially during these times. Take care and thanks again!”

WE NEED BASIC CALCULATORS. PLEASE HELP.
Funded Oct 28, 2019Having such a basic math necessity in the classroom (scientific calculators) makes a huge difference for our students. It was a shame that they had to start off the school year without such a basic need, but thanks to the generosity of our donors, they can now have the peace of mind that they have a calculator in their math classroom.
Many students struggle with their fundamental math skills, and the calculator helps them with getting through difficult math topics without having to get stuck on the easier, most basic steps. They can focus on the standards and concepts they need to learn instead of focusing on how to multiply, add or subtract integers. It also helps them practice their basic skills.
For the higher level concepts, these calculators are invaluable. There are certain topics that we would not be able to do without these calculators. Logarithms and Trigonometry are a couple of topics that come to mind. Without these calculators, we would have to revert to pages and pages of tables of calculations to figure out some of these problems. That's the way that math was done back in the 50s and 60s! We are finally up to speed with the 1970s!
Again, we all appreciate the generosity you showed when you donated to our cause. Thanks again from me and all of my students!”

Funded Jul 23, 2018I am so humbled by your generosity. This donation will give our students the tools they need to go deeper into their learning. We are so grateful. Giving the students the resources that other more affluent schools have is a big step in leveling the playing field for our students.”

Learning the Fundamentals of Computer Science!
Funded Jun 4, 2017I want to thank each and everyone of you who donated to my project. I learned so much during the summer online class I took, and I am going to take what I learned into my classroom this school year. Even though I teach high school math and the summer online class was on computer science, there are many principles in computer science (creating algorithms, flowcharts, translating ideas into computer code, etc) that I can transfer into the math classroom. I think it will also get kids curious about computer science, and maybe they might take a class or two in high school or in college (which could lead to a lucrative career).
Again, thank you so much for your generosity. All my students thank you too.”

Funded May 19, 2015Our students are so grateful for your generosity! To have something basic like scientific calculators is enormous. The students know that their school lacks a lot of resources because money is scarce. Sometimes I hear students say that they feel the school doesn't care about them because the school can't provide simple things to them (like calculators, field trips, etc) and fundraising seems to be the only way we can get stuff.
The kids feel proud to use these calculators because they know they came from people who wanted to help; from people who don't even know them but cared enough to reach into their wallet and donate to them. We cannot thank you enough for this.”

Unmotivated Students Gain Access To Math Through Technology
Funded Jan 31, 2012I cannot tell you how valuable these Kindle's have been to our students. They are seeing concepts in our Algebra Readiness class that they have seen for 2 to 3 years already, but have not mastered them. They become very bored of the same kind of teaching, and will not learn these concepts through the same mode of instruction.
With the Kindles, the students can now access some of these concepts through the lens of their world. They are so used to using their electronic devices (phones, tablets, ipods, etc) to access the things they enjoy (social media, texting, etc). Now they have an avenue to access the math content with the technology they are so used to.
Many students who I had to practically pull teeth to get them to do any work and now asking me, "Can I do this on the Kindle?", "Can I use that math app on the Kindle?". They are actually getting excited to practice math on the Kindle. If it wasn't for the Kindles, some of these kids would never want to do any math. These Kindles have opened up opportunities for some kids who would not have participated at all in our class.”
