Storytelling Lives in Pre-K
Funded Oct 20, 2016Dear Donors,
What a joy to see my students interacting with the flannel board and the stories. The children eagerly started retelling the stories using the flannel board pieces. I did not tell them about the project before hand, and the expressions on their faces when they got to tear into the boxes and the flannel board, were heartwarming to watch. At first they didn't know what to make of the pieces.
Some children began to sort the pieces according to the story they thought they belonged to. After talking with the children we just might create our own song activity using the pieces we have. What about the "Great Big Spider That Scared The Frogs Off The Log"?
I have a number of seasonal activities I made over the years, like "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting On The Gate", and it is a delight to see them use them on their new flannel surface. On behalf of the children”

Pre-K Moving Forward
Funded Mar 10, 2016The children and I are so excited about the addition of the iPad to our classroom. I have recorded videos of the children engaged in small group conversation and we have watched and critiqued them. Oh boy, do the children love to see themselves on video! The children have seen themselves practicing specific teacher taught speaking strategies in a whole group setting and now can learn what they should change, just by watching. Am I sitting properly? Can I hear myself? Am I paying attention to others in the group when they are speaking? Additionally, those children with specific needs are being assisted with the use of educational apps, and all the while they are learning in a playful way. No stress here!
Thank you so much for allowing the children and me to have this opportunity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Berk

Funded Mar 7, 2016The new touchscreen computer is finally up and running in our computer center. What a pleasure to see children either collaborating together or working independently on educational tasks presented in the form of a game. The children are being exposed to activities that not only enrich their number sense and alphabet recognition, but focus on our units of study. There are activities which teach children about recycling and plants, are current units. We have already used the computer to learn that vegetables such as the cucumber and tomato are called the fruits of the plant. The touchscreen truly makes it an awarding experience for each child. I look forward to exploring more sites to use with the children in small groups and independent settings.”

Help Enrich Center Time
Funded Mar 20, 2016The addition of the stroller has awakened the children's interest in the dramatic play area in ways I could not have imagined. Since we have the "laundromat" in our center now, they are tending to the "babies" needs and ironing their clothes, dressing them, and taking them for walks around the different areas of the room. The watercolors are so vivid that children who had not yet ventured over to standard watercolor sets are engrossed in the exploration of color. Thank you for making this spark in the classroom possible.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Berk
