Let's Move!
Funded Nov 10, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donations. Thanks to this project our students received new and updated equipment to support our physical fitness through PE and recess/lunch play time. This school year has been a challenging year as we adapt to our slow transition to our traditional schooling schedule. Students are reengaging with their peers, continuing to develop their social skills and relearning to interact with their peers. Engaging in play time is a big component to supporting students in building strong and appropriate peer relationships.
Students are playing organized sports again with these new materials. They are jumping rope together, playing soccer and playing basketball together. They are getting better and developing their physical fitness skills as well after almost two years at home with little or no activity. Best of all is that we see students smiling, laughing and happy once again. Schools play such an important role in the development of children and we have the responsibility to support all aspects of growth; academic, social emotional and physical fitness. Thank you once again for making this possible!”

Funded May 11, 2021I will never get enough of books particularly class sets that allow us all to immerse ourselves in new journeys and adventures that only good literature will create for us. With this project I wanted to request a set that was grade level appropriate and that reflected inclusivity and diversity. Once Crazy Summer is culturally relevant and exposes my students to cultures that don't necessarily look like them by have similar experiences. This will lead us to discussions about acceptance, tolerance and compassion for others in combating the racism that exists all around us.
Through this text students were able to make personal connections to the characters and the journeys they took in the storyline. We immersed in the story together and fostered an excitement for reading within the classroom. Thank you for making this possible with your generous donations.”

Funded May 3, 2021In this digital age books continue to be an essential component in any classroom. Moreover, culturally relevant literature that embeds equity and inclusion is important literature to incorporate in any classroom library. Mañaland and Hello Universe were well received by my students during distance learning. Students made connections with their lives, they culture and language. The also made great literary connections between both texts. Most importantly they reignited the value and importance that reading novels have. Both of these texts helped us create and sustain our classroom community.
They were received so well I created this project asking for class sets of these titles to have for this year's class and beyond. In hopes that they have the same impact on every classroom and students all the same. Continuing further now all my future classrooms have the opportunity to experience two great stories all while improving our literacy skills. Thanks to your generous donations all of this was and will continue to be possible. Thank you!”

Funded Mar 16, 2021Thank you for your generosity in getting this project funded. Thanks to donors like yourselves we were able to get a wireless keyboard, mouse and pen to help us all communicate and learn better during pandemic learning.
In the spring when we returned during hybrid learning these wireless tools helped me stay connected to my students who chose to stay in distance learning while continuing to teach my in person students. We all stayed connected while respecting our distance and staying safe. We continue to learn in the safest learning environment possible and much of our learning continues to be with the aide of digital platforms and instruction. These resources continue to be a great asset in our daily instruction and communication.
In a digital age that continues to update itself these tools will be a great support as we move forward. Once again thank you for supporting our classroom.”

Let's Champion Our Social Emotional Development!
Funded Mar 22, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donations to this project. This project was particularly important as my students returned to hybrid learning after a year of distance learning. Distance learning took a toll on all of us and these resources helped this transition be less daunting. The growth mindset journals helped us start our day with a quick reading and check to keep us focused on our mind and learning goals. The daily writing topics helped us start important conversations around self growth, family, friendships and making good decisions. The art supplies helped build a creative space to express ourselves and release any stress from this new way of living and learning.
There is so much uncertainty in everyday life and different stressors make it difficult for children to focus and learn in a safe learning environments. These materials allow us to create such a space and learning environment for children to continue thriving and growing. Donors like yourselves made this possible, we are grateful.”

Funded Nov 20, 2020Thank you for your generous donations, this particular project has been so well received by my students. They were excited to take home two brand new books and were overjoyed when they learned they could keep. We finished reading Hello Universe first and are well into Mañanaland. The level of excitement and engagement for reading has been a delightful surprise. We are overwhelmed with all the resources available via our access to technology so reading physical books together has not only supported our reading development but has also brought us closer as a classroom community. We read a chapter a day and students make sure I don't skip over a day or chapter as we eagerly await on what's next. I love their excitement for reading. What's more wonderful is that we were able to get books in Spanish and therefore every one of my students has access to the text. Students are making connections to both books, their characters, events and it is happening naturally. They are also making personal connections to the characters with real world topics such as bullying, immigration, friendships and overcoming hardships. Students are invested and establishing a love for reading that is beautiful to witness. Thank you for helping fulfill such a special project.”

Funded Oct 16, 2020Thank you for donating to our classroom in such unprecedented times. Life has been challenging for everyone therefore we are humbled and appreciative that you chose us. We are still learning virtually and the resources we received are helping tremendously supporting our math instruction. We are currently learning about fractions and the fraction kits and white boards are wonderful tools in demonstrating and modeling our learning. We will begin integrating adding, subtracting, multiplication and division of fractions soon so these resources will be of great value as we explore more difficult concepts. Hands on materials and resources were readily available in our physical classroom. We were very lucky to be able to get some of those resources at home for students. I use my set to teach and give examples. The deck of cards allow us to practice our fluency around multiplication and other fun math games students can play in their breakout rooms. Technology has given us access to lots of learning tools but tactile resources are timeless and always effective. Thank you once again, your donations have given us some learning normalcy at home. Be well!”

Funded Mar 6, 2020Thank you for your kind donations in growing our library with great picture books. The different titles that were donated have supported us in learning about important topics that include diversity, inclusion and acceptance. These are topics students are struggling with in 5th grade and high interest picture picture books engage students with these challenging discussions.
We received these books at the beginning of the pandemic therefore reading has looked different through virtual learning. We've read and discussed the books virtually and responded to them through our digital platforms. Thus far we've listening to and read I am love, a book about compassion. One, a book on anti bullying and Same.Same but Different, a book that discusses cultural similarities that all children share regardless of origin.
Students have responded well to these topics and have great insight on these topics. We could all learn so much from just listening to students. We're excited to read the remaining titles as the year progresses wether it's in person or virtually. Books like these help us create and sustain an empathic classroom community and thanks to your donations we have access to them.”

Funded Jul 8, 2020Thanks to your generous donations my students and I have begun our journey into learning how to play chess together. I sent home the chess games with some basic resources at the beginning of the school year. It was a perfect game to learn remotely as there are many resources online to help us with the fundamentals of playing chess. I was just as excited as the students because I too am a novice player.
Of my 24 students only one knew how to play so she has become our resident teacher and helping us all navigate the game. Thanks to this project each student took home a chess set and we've dedicated Mondays to learning a new lesson. Every Monday we set up our chess boards and pieces and together work through the day's lesson. Students have become creative and have started practicing with siblings, parents or even play with themselves and move both sets of chess pieces. We look forward to our chess Mondays. Students are picking up the lessons quickly despite our challenges with distance learning. We end the day with a reflection of their new learning. They're excited to try their new skills once we go back into the classroom in which they'll get to play each other.
As well as learning a new game, this opportunity has supported our classroom as we build an online learning community. All possible thanks to donors like yourselves.”

Funded Jan 2, 2020Thanks to your generous donations 25 of our students participated in yesterday's 42nd annual Los Angeles Chinatown Firecracker Run. To be exact 20 students completed the 5K run and 5 others completed the 10K run. It was a great day for running, for community and to celebrate the year of the rat. Four of our students went home with divisional medals as well. One student placed first in her age division 5K, another 3rd in his age division 5K, a third second in her age division 10K and last but not least another placed 3rd in his age division 10K. They ran exceptionally through a difficult course around Dodger stadium. We are proud of every single runner as they all crossed that finish line and went home winners.
The day started with fireworks and lion dancers to celebrate the lunar new year. The first race corral started with our 5K runners followed shortly thereafter by the corral running the 10K. We were blessed with beautiful weather and enjoyed a Sunday run amongst thousands of Angelenos. This year was a special one, parents came prepared with signs and noisemakers to cheer on our runners as they each crossed the finish line. These are experiences our students/runners will remember the rest of their lives and it is thanks to donors like you that made this possible. We are grateful!”
