  • Snug As a Bug In a Rug

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

My students LOVE the carpet! It is much bigger than the usual carpets so bigger kids can still join us rather than having to sit on a chair because they don't fit. It's also much better for brain breaks since students have a little more room to move. The muted colors helped calm the room down as well. The natural tones make the room less busy and much better for autistic students. Since it is large, we can have two separate groups use it at the same time. We get compliments all the time from teachers and other students!

We are all very grateful for this gift and truly appreciate your generosity!”

  • The Artistic Approach

    Funded Dec 18, 2021

We are constantly getting compliments on our art! The students love creating their own styles. Art is also very therapeutic; since our students have an unusually high degree of anxiety, it is extremely helpful in a plethora of areas. These projects provide rich vocabulary, especially for language learners: prepositions, verbs, academic language, etc. I use the art to reinforce the content of other subjects such as math, reading, and science. The creative outlet allows students to express their thoughts and feelings in a healthy way. It also provides a calm, soothing activity to help students process their anxiety. Different mediums provide new and exciting methods of creating art.”

  • Snack On This

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

We are so grateful for your generous donations! The students look forward to the snack every day. Their lunches are less than desirable, so the snacks are truly a saving grace for many students. I know there are students who do not have food at home and the lunch at 11am is not enough to sustain them until the next morning. I understand that this is not enough either, but it certainly helps. Students love having different choices and many of them are experiencing new foods entirely.

When the snacks run low, they are severely disappointed. I supplement the snacks with fruit from my tangerine and orange trees, so it lasts a long time. I am planning on submitting one more project to last us to the end of the year. I am also having students do research on health eating and what foods are healthy and why.

Thank you again for making a huge difference in these students' school experiences!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Newman

  • Variety Is the Spice of Life!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

This was one of the most successful projects I have had funded! The Craisins were not the right kind, but the students like the cherry ones as well. There have been enough snacks, that only now are we able to see the bottom of the boxes. Most students come to me daily asking for a snack. It makes me so happy to have something available!

It is more than 3 hours between the end of lunch and dismissal. That's a long time to go without something to eat. Some students don't even get a snack when they go home, meaning they have to wait until dinner, or in some circumstances, breakfast.

I am hoping to have another sustenance project funded soon. I can supplement until then, but I couldn't do it without your generous support!”

  • Healthy Is Happy!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

These items have been handed out at the beginning of the year to families who requested assistance. Because there are so many toothbrushes, I am able to supply everyone with one in September and again in January! Plus some left over to put in the prize box - some students have chosen one to give to their sibling!

When students come to me with chapped lips, socks that don't fit, hair that needs to be tied back, I can actually do something about it instead of just telling parents at the end of the day.

Children need someone to rely on in their lives, and unfortunately, that isn't always their parent. It is incredibly gratifying to be that person - and I couldn't do it without you!”

  • A Little Independence, Please!

    Funded Jul 12, 2021

These materials are fantastic! The students actually complain when they don't get to do the center! They can use these items without needing my verification that they are right or wrong. Most students use them properly and learn from their mistakes.

This activity center has provided time for me to assess and reteach many skills that students are missing. I can use targeted intervention because I know exactly where the gaps are in their learning.

I have enough materials to use them with every level from kinder through 2nd. I will be able to continue to use them through to the end of the year! Thank you!!!”

  • Reading Is Fun...No, Really!

    Funded Jul 29, 2021

This has been a particularly difficult year to motivate students to learn. These materials have given the students a fun, entertaining center that also teaches and quizzes! The children love the light and sound when they answer. It helps me keep a watch on them to ensure they aren't just pressing buttons!

They are excited to get to use it and finish their tedious work in a timely manner. In turn, they are getting more exposure to letters, sounds, shapes, numbers, colors, and reading patterns. The substantial spectrum of reading and math activity levels allows all students to utilize the materials! Thank you for helping our students grow!”

  • Soak Up Some Summer Reading

    Funded May 18, 2021

Thank you for your generosity! My students were able to take home multiple books for the summer! I donated time to read with them on Zoom during vacation and they were very excited. Our students needed the extra push this summer more than ever before. I am beginning a new year and have enough books to give to the students on the verge of reading while I work with the students who are still struggling. My new students love the various choices and characters available to them. This makes reading much more interesting! Thank you!!!”

  • It's a Must-Read!

    Funded May 5, 2021

I am so grateful for this resource! I showed students how to use it and they were very excited; but when I put it on their desks they didn't use them! So I made a station next to my desk and called them up one at a time and had them try it out. Today, one student looked at me smiling and said, "This is fun!" Another student giggled while he used it. It's amazing! the pens allow for the sound to be on or off. If I need them to use it while others need quiet, I can turn off the sound. When they are using it next to me, I can help a different student and still listen to the pen to make sure they aren't just guessing. If I hear more than two buzzes in a row, I can stop and help make sure they are using it properly. It is a lovely, lovely little invention!”

  • Screen Off and Screen Out

    Funded Apr 16, 2021

This is an amazing tool! It took a little getting used to, but once I was able to streamline the directions, many students were able to use it! The material is rather difficult for some of the students, so for now it is being used for the higher students.

Over the summer, I plan to create new lessons that are more appropriate for lower students. The trays are universal so they can be used in countless ways! I am even looking forward to trying it out with math lessons!

The trays are self-inclusive so they can be kept in student boxes for use during COVID. Once we are allowed to share materials, they can be used as a center. Thank you for this amazing resource!”

My school is an overflow school. This means that students who are kicked out of other schools, or pushed out due to lack of room are bussed to us. Many of our students do not receive support at home. This particular class has had a rough year and they have not had the exposure to science and history that they should. Many students do not receive meals at home and several more do not have access to books.
